What to do about curtains for this window?

The window in my bedroom is in a really awkward position, right up in the corner of the room. To the right of the window there's only a 9cm gap (although there's lots of wall space to the left of the window). I'd really like full length curtains, but I've read you need 15cm each side to 'stack' the curtains when they're open, can you clever MNers think of a way around this? I know I could have a curtain just on one side, but that would feel a bit weird somehow. Would it be really weird to have a wider curtain on one side than the other? I know a Roman blind would be the obvious solution (which is what I've done elsewhere in my home), but I love full length curtains and would really love to find a way to make them work in this room somehow! Any suggestions gratefully received!

Certainly curtains that only pull to one side could work with a big tieback or similar.

Or roman blind + voile because voile are less voluminous?

I would go for blinds or shutters, it'll look neat and 'right'. I think curtains - whatever you do - would look like a workaround.

Blinds also look more modern, many people prefer them to curtains anyway. (I know you just said that you don't but if you consider potential future sale of the house then blinds will look better to the majority of potential buyers)

If you absolutely want to have full length curtains, then I would also suggest voile ones or very light cotton ones, with a neat blind inside the window itself so you don't depend on the curtain for keeping the room dark. You'd have to do it very carefully and have a very delicate sort of pole to have the voile on, otherwise the corner space would look awkward (and obviously the pole would have to be equal at the other side).

I’d do blinds or one curtain.

Our bedroom window has a small gap like that although admittedly our window itself is much wider and let’s in more light. We have full length curtains from the narrowest range Dunelm do, I think 117cm.. they look good in my opinion! They are quite light weight so not too much fabric to push back & we have a blackout blind as well to keep it dark!

It's a lovely window with a nice deep windowsill. I have no windowsills in my house, so have windowsill envy! I never knew that until now :)

One curtain always looks a bit student flat, as if you couldn't afford a full pair. I think the only time it works is if you have two close set windows and put one curtain on each.

I think curtains will work ok there. 8cm is not too small for pulling back the curtain.
One thing though - I'd go for a thin but dense fabric rather than a thicker fabric (like velvet or brocade) so that there is a lot of material but you can push it back.

A blind and a voile across from one side if you want to soften the look.

We have two very similar windows in our current house. Although not a popular choice, we’ve put pull cord curtain tracks up on these windows with a light fabric - we couldn’t get poles of any kid with finials to fit the space and not look bonkers.

I think if you do one curtain you need a bit of drama in the tie back/hook, and to drape it slightly.
