What colour tiles for a kitchen?

We’re planning our kitchen and unsure about what colour wall tiles to have. It’s very light and south facing; the units will be dove grey and the worktop white - compact laminate marble effect. The walls will be white. So maybe it needs breaking up a bit from mainly white with the metro wall tiles. But what colour? Or will white tiles be ok too?

Also, the floor will be porcelain tiles - I need something mud coloured really as the kids tramp in mud constantly! So either wood effect or something beigey I think. But any advice or thoughts gratefully received.

White tiles with light grey grout? I was going to suggest light grey tiles but then they'd need to match the units.
Maybe think about having the tiles in a chevron pattern to add a bit of interest?

I agree with white tiles grey grout, herringbone style

Depending in the shade you pick some yellows can go well with grey and can lift the overall monochrome effect.
You could pick a floor tile with a bit of yellow in it too to tie it together.

These ones in the large picture are rather nice for floors and shouldn't show the dirt too much!

Grey grouting sounds good. I like the herringbone style but fear our budget may not run to the extra labour costs. Surprisingly for me, I rather like the yellow tiles and grey floor. I will investigate all of them. Thanks so much for the ideas.

Those yellow tiles are gorgeous. I think farrow and ball has just brought out a paint colour that is similar. Not suggesting that to you, OP, just saying that it shows that the colour is very of the moment. I love it.

We've got pale grey cupboards, and black granite in kitchen, but a white marble effect laminate in utility. We went for 'interesting' white metro tiles from Mandarin Stone: www.mandarinstone.com/product/zellige-nouveau-metro-white-gloss-ceramic/

They have slight colour variation, and a bumpy surface, so give a bit of texture, there are also lots of other colours in the range, so you could always add in some pale grey and darker grey, or one of the colours?

Thank you for all the suggestions. Really useful! I think we’re going to go for pebble grey - so slightly less white - and white metro tiles with white marbley looking solid laminate. Floor will be beige rather like @LittleOverWhelmed’s utility. We’ve got beige tiles in our hall (see photo) already which I really like so that should help tie in the look too a bit. It will be so much easier to keep the floor clean than the black slate floor we currently have!

Ok so we changed the design a bit…we have ordered dove grey cabinets with zenith caldeira worktop. A bit of a change but DH was worried it would be too white if we had a white worktop as well and we didn’t like the texture of the marble effect Zenith whereas the caldeira had a great texture and was interesting. So this way we can just have white metro tiles on the walls and maybe something grey/brownish in floor. Worried we’ve made the wrong decision but to be honest anything will look better than our current tired kitchen. But DS said it looked horrible so lost confidence a bit! www.savoytimber.com/caldeira-zenith-compact-laminate-worktop-3020mm-x-650mm-12-5mm.html
