American fridge freezer in lounge?

We are moving into a council property this weekend and there is a cupboard for an integrated fridge-freezer but we have our own American fridge freezer which as you can imagine is huge and expensive!
We are having carpet being put down in the lounge and will have to put the fridge in the corner of the room near where our sofa will be (lounge isn’t that big and it’s open plan) anyone else done this?? I’m so paranoid it won’t look right and look stupid or out of place!

It will certainly be interesting.

andivfmakes3 · 25/05/2021 10:24

Ummm yeah it's going to look really odd/silly?

superstar84 · 25/05/2021 10:24

Sell it and buy a smaller one

Do you mean temporarily keep it in the lounge, or... keep it in the lounge?

MissingTheMoonlight · 25/05/2021 10:25

My MIL has this and I'm used to it now but it is a bit odd TBH

TinaYouFatLard · 25/05/2021 10:25

Do you mean open plan like the kitchen is in the same room? That might not look too bad. However if the kitchen is separate I would sell the American fridge and get integrated when you can.

mamaandthegirls · 25/05/2021 10:39

So the first photo is where it’ll go (by the radiator) and the 2nd photo is of the kitchen. Maybe I should just get intergrated?🤣

Sell it.

TinaYouFatLard · 25/05/2021 10:41

I think it’ll be okay temporarily but would swap for integrated as soon as you can. It’s a lovely looking open plan space so if you can keep it uncluttered (and I would class a fridge freezer as clutter!) it will work better.

Congrats on the lovely new home OP!

Have you got a shed? We moved and got an integrated fridge freezer...it's so small after being used to the American style one we had. Luckily, we have that in our shed and use it for extras...drinks at Christmas, Christmas food etc.

grapewine · 25/05/2021 10:43

I'd sell it. It's going to annoy you soon being in the lounge, I'd imagine.

TheBobJog · 25/05/2021 10:44

The place looks lovely OP, but yes, I'd swap for an integrated one rather than stand the American one there.

Forestdweller11 · 25/05/2021 10:45

Near the radiator probably isn't the best place for a fridge freezer.

mamaandthegirls · 25/05/2021 10:46

@magicstar1 that’s definitely something I’ve considered , but with it being needed to be plugged in I’m not sure I could do that in a shed - or am I being dumb?🤣

Could you get a joiner to remove the kitchen units on the left of the gap? Would it fit in that space?

GlutenFreeGingerCake · 25/05/2021 10:53

I'd sell it too it will look odd in the lounge.

Overdueanamechange · 25/05/2021 10:56

Agree with the shed idea (a couple of family members with extra freezers do this. Get an electrician to fit a proper outside plug to be safe.

Blacksheep99 · 25/05/2021 10:58

I personally couldn’t have it in the lounge...it would bug the hell out of me! And they have a tendency to make humming noises which would drive me up the wall! Put it in a shed if that’s an option or sell it and buy one that fits! Congrats on ur new place!

PattyPan · 25/05/2021 10:59

If it’s right next to the end of the kitchen cabinets so it’s like it’s part of the kitchen but just on the carpet instead of the kitchen floor I think it will look ok but I would have reservations: is there somewhere to plug it in? And what happens to the carpet if you need to defrost it or you get water building up in it or the kids drop something out of it onto the floor?

magicstar1 · 25/05/2021 11:07

@mamaandthegirls our shed is concrete and it has electrcity and water. All you really need though is a socket, and it shouldn't be too difficult to run a cable out to it. It's worth looking into. After a fridge that size, an integrated one will do your head in lol.

mamaandthegirls · 25/05/2021 14:40

There is wall opposite just below the stairs, anyone reckon an extension lead would work if I was to plug it in that side?

Just install another socket, you can't have an extension lead trailing the whole way across a kitchen floor.
Heyha · 25/05/2021 14:46

Another vote for taking out the cupboards if you can without knackering the worktop. Having the noise of it in the living room would drive me up the wall.

UhtredRagnarson · 25/05/2021 14:48

That’s not paranoid. Wink

It most certainly will look stupid and out of place.
