Hello!

Just moved into a new house so redecorating! I have a 6 year old girl and 2 year old boy who will be sharing for a few years until I move into a bigger property.

Just after ideas for themes for their room!

One theme I thought of is 'bears'. I will attach a photo but I was thinking like the photo I could do a feature wall with half painted one colour and the other half white with dots/splodges, so the bear theme I could do this is a lovely neutral medium beige! But a friend just pointed out that my daughter might hate that in a few years as she's older! Could also do pandas? Idk!

Just a bit stuck as never really decorated. Thanks xx

I do like your idea.
There is a Facebook group DIY On a Budget that often has this issue and people's solutions.
You could keep the paint colour neutral and then add accessories so that as tastes change the room can as well. The works do massive blank canvases for under £20 so maybe paint them with spots to save having to redo the wall.
Popular neutral themes could include; jungle, zoo and seaside

When you say "afew years"
How many do you envisage?
I have a 5yr old very nearly 6 dd and 2yr old ds
If I was in this situation I'd get a sofa bed in the lounge for me and then give them a room each as I think they both need their own space ideally

I'd like to move by the time she's 9/10. Her brother has only just turned 2 this month and she's very happy and excited to share with him as he's currently in my room still.

Your idea sounds lovely but by 8 I would think your daughter would be embarrassed by a teddy bedroom so I would suggest you go for something more neutral, maybe with wall stickers that can be easily changed. I think sharing could be fine for a couple of years but by 9 if you're not able to move I would do as a pp suggested and get yourself a sofa bed so they can have a room each. Puberty often starts aged 9/10 and my DD would have absolutely hated sharing with a boy at that age

I recently redid my kids room. I have boys, 5 and 3, but one likes very 'girly' things and one likes typical boy stuff, so needed to be neutral. I painted the room white, and made rainbow bunting all around the top of the room. All the furniture is white then a rainbow rug on the floor and bright bedding. They each got a big poster of their specific interests that they like by their bed, and a framed painted animal alphabet and bright clock on the wall. They've both got colour changing fairy lights hanging in the corner by their beds. I put a cheap white round lantern lightshade but used cotton buds to paint on rainbow polka dots.

The bunting, rug, bedding, lightshade and pictures all add lots of colour, plus all the colour from their toys and books, without it feeling like everything is mismatched.

These pins were my inspiration and I made a little art area like the one with little pots for pens and pencils on the wall above a little fold down wall mounted table from ikea. The pens and pencils add more colours too. I think if we'd painted a wall colour it would have ended up too busy.
