We are looking for two new ceiling lights / shades in our 1970s living room / dining room. I like something like these LED lights www.dunelm.com/product/cortez-5-light-integrated-led-swirl-semi-flush-ceiling-fitting-1000119880?defaultSkuId=30580098

while DH only likes very simple designs which I think look cheap and nasty

He argues my suggestions are too complicated and wasteful because you can’t change the bulbs and they would have to be renewed when they stopped working. Does he have a point? We both want something bright and low maintenance so maybe he’s right. Just interested in people’s thoughts really. What do you have for ceiling lights?

We have the same 'cheap nasty' lights on pendants in the bedrooms, Grin a pendant with a William Morris shade in the hall but in the living, dining rooms I prefer something a bit fancier so we just have a 3 arm type which you can change bulbs.

We have one of those LED lights in our utility room but a flush to the ceiling one as ceiling is low but when they go you can't just replace the bulbs. DH fitted it so if it doesn't last he can just replace it, not so easy if you have to get an electrician in, so depends really on how inconvenient it would be.

Could you maybe get chandelier types to compromise where bulbs can be changed, those simple (cheap nastyGrin)lights are a bit basic for main rooms

Oh dear - maybe I should have said ‘simple’ design. No offence intended. I agree that they are fine for bedroom or office. But not living room. I think perhaps a compromise is required on my part! I think having to change whole light instead of bulb is just too much of a faff even though DH could do it. Thanks for the advice.
