My 3.5 year old son needs a bigger bed, he’s currently still in his cot bed (IKEA cot, side removed). His room isn’t massive but I was set on the IKEA Kura bed which can be turned into a mid sleeper when he’s a bit older but it’s a lot bigger than a junior bed. I’m so indecisive which is actually really frustrating. I’ve spent hours on Pinterest and YouTube for inspiration, I guess my question is, would you go for a smaller bed and more storage furniture (I was thinking an IKEA Trofast unit perhaps) or get the bigger bed and keep some toy storage in the living room where he has a play corner. For info it’s just me and my son so budget does play a part. I’d love to create a cosy and functional room for him.

Ikea Kura bed is recommended, like most bunk beds, to be from 6 years old, ie you have a bit of a wait to be able to place it in the bunk bed mode and utilise the storage underneath. We had one but Ds2 was 7 when we got it and we made a reading/play nook underneath it. He loved it, we had the tent over the top too. Thinking back we had to be very careful with the depth of the mattress for the Kura.

Alternatively you could look at getting an ottoman bed which would lift up and give you access to storage underneath and hidden away, or one with drawers underneath to store toys etc.

Ikea's Nordi is £199 and has drawers underneath. Comes in black or white I think. 200cm long is a single bed size though and unless you are planning to move at some stage he will need that at some point so you might as well get that now.

Rotate toys, if you have a loft you can stash them in for a couple of months or utilise your room, top of a wardrobe or something. As children get bigger their toys get smaller thankfully.
