From stark white bungalow to......?

I bought a new build small bungalow a couple of years ago. All painted white which I thought I’d love, and just add colour with accessories. I’m now bored with the colour of the accessories (ochre/grey) and really bored with white so want to add colour(s) but feel that it needs to have a ‘whole house’ colour scheme so the rooms flow.

I feel like I should wallpaper but wonder whether I should spoil my lovely plastered walls.

Help.... I just can’t make a decision... been pondering this for a year now!

Choosing one colour to run through the whole home, will give a sense of connection from room to room.

But, it’s not an easy option.

Usually near neutral colours are chosen for this purpose and yet these are the very colours which are the most impacted upon by light quality.

Whichever colour you look to use, needs viewing in each space, just so you have no unexpected surprises.

We all know colours can appear lighter or darker, but some colours are actually prone to completely shifting colour, in certain imbalanced light situations.

Painting a sample on large boards x 2 coats, means you are more able to move them around from room to room and view in sunlight and shadow.

Have a look at the American website Homebunch .com
Lots of these huge homes choose one colour to run through different spaces, but note just how much light they get through the many windows.

You can still create flow with different colours.
And this may allow you greater flexibility, to choose colours which partner the varying light quality in different spaces more effectively.

Following with interest as I am in the same boat - trying to decorate a stark white new build.

Maybe if you're bored with it, it's because too many of your accessories are grey as well (so too neutral)? You could try instead using a subtle, natural looking colour in each room for flow - but combine it with different, brighter highlight colours depending on the room so you don't get bored.

Providing the "base" is neutral enough, I think you can get away with mixing several colours - and picking a blue or green often works well imo since they tend to be calming and restful (as they are reminiscent of nature).

For example, I have boring all white walls, my furniture is mostly various shades of white/grey/beige and I have neutral wooden floors in every room - but my flow or accent colour is duck egg blue throughout (accessories/pictures/soft furnishings). So I have duck egg combined with rose pink and mint green in the kitchen, duck egg with teal green and yellow/gold in the lounge, duck egg with lilac/mauve and sage green in the bedroom etc.
