Kitchen Splashbacks

New kitchen arrives in a couple of weeks and we haven't decided on splashbacks. The units are grey shaker (grey not dove grey or carbon). The floor is oak and the worktops are white quartz with a marble effect.

Do we go bright coloured tiles, or a light coloured backboard? I'm no closer to making a decisions and we're running not of time!

I am a huge fan of having a coloured glass splashback, if your budget can stretch to it. From your description of other decisions you have made I think this would work well for you. Tiles always start looking old far too quickly after being installed, and keeping grout clean is a nightmare. A single smooth glass surface is much easier to keep looking as pristine as the day it was installed. You can colour-match it to anything you like, or just pick a favourite contrasting shade.

I’d go with a marble tile, similar to the worktop, in an interesting pattern - maybe herringbone or hexagon. So quite a neutral look in terms of colour but the detail is in the cut. I’d probably go for smaller tiles rather than big ones. But I appreciate that’s the exact opposite of the pp!

I prefer to keep the decor neutral and then add pops of colour with a vase of flowers, candles, tea towels, etc because I get bored with colour after a while and like a change from time to time.
