Do I have to use kitchen paint?

Just that really. Do I have to use kitchen paint or can I get away with a wipeable emulsion?
Just frustrated I can't find the right colour I have in mind in the kitchen paints

You don’t have to, but our Kitchen Dulux Endurance is better than the regular Endurance. Either would do, but the kitchen specific one is more easily wipeable.

Kitchen specific ones will tolerate grease and steam better than regular kinds. You can get kitchen paint mixed to a regular paint colour for Dulux, and I assume Johnson’s paint too. But if you just use normal paint it’ll be OK, just not as long-lasting.

I've used standard paint on a kitchen, and it was fine for years and years.

ceilingsand · 26/03/2021 08:38

I never use it. Then again, I don't expect it to last for years and years.

I opted for kitchen paint in the end.
Problem now is I hate the colour. Stupidly didn't get tester pots because I was too impatient.
Now have Dulux easy care kitchen paint claiming to be 'overtly olive ' but actually more oatmeal mush!
Why oh why, whatever shade I chose do they all end up looking the same?
It's practically the same colour as living room (that was supposed to be an olive hue of some kind ).
I'm not too bothered cos I love the colour but my DDs & DH are going to have a field day when they get home, they said I have no imagination when it comes to colours Grin

Maybe they should have chosen the colour and done the decorating themselves if they’re so much better at it than you.

drivinmecrazy · 26/03/2021 09:16

I wish!! Actually to be fair DH will come home this evening and see what a mess I've made of it (in his eyes!) and will probably take over , that's what I'm hoping anyway.
The idea of decorating always seems so appealing until you get started and remember it's really no fun.
I have a nice bottle of wine I'll keep in my eyeline and one eye on the clock. I've decided I'll definitely deserve a glass by lunchtime Grin

I can recommend doing an online wine tasting (it was actually DH’s, with a customer, but I joined in) while painting the staircase. The top step was ok but my cutting in was decidedly wobbly by the time I got to the last step Grin

Usually I say yes to this question - Dulux specialist finishes are excellent IMO - but we repainted our kitchen in leftover Little Greene regular emulsion four years ago as a last-minute decision and it's held up beautifully, no complaints at all. It's not a huge room either, 3m x 4.5m, so takes a bashing in terms of cooking and laundry use, plus 2 x DC who were 5 and 8 at time of repainting.

I should add that's our kitchen and dining area! 3x4.5m would be pretty big for a standalone kitchen.
