Narrow storage solutions for hall

My hall is very narrow 1x4 and I'm having a think about where to put coats. I saw this in Made.com and thought it looked reasonably narrow. I'm concerned about creating a kind of roundabout for coats.

At the moment I have hooks, which are hung on the back of a door that leads out from the hall. It works well as the door is obviously in a kind of dip and doesn't impact the hall. I'm not sure what that does to the door though. Whether the coats will be too heavy.

I was then thinking about a shelf with hooks, like this. Putting that high on the wall, and storing winter coats so it doesn't get bulked out. Nowhere for shoes though.

Any other ideas?

@greycloudysky I prefer the look of number 2 and if you don't want to spend a fortune have a look at e.g. this - ( you could always paint to match www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/tjusig-bench-with-shoe-storage-white-70152702/

I have the dark brown one as it was the only thing which fitted - does a decent job - has a lovely basket on the top for dog stuff , bags etc are put on top shelf and once lots of shoes in then I can hardly see mine. But smart and not expensive.

IKEA shoe cabinets are very slim and a lot of people swear by them. However my lot didn't bother shutting ours so we had some shoes cubbies custom made to fit our tiny space. They are like little pigeon holes. Maximum access while minimising the visual impact.

We also have hooks with a shelf over thing. They are pretty robust, and you can position them at whatever height minimises their intrusion on your space.

Personally, though, if the door thing is working then why change it? As long as it functions well it can't be sagging - doors don't have a lot of wiggle room before they start rubbing on one corner or another. Ruthlessly decluttering every season is your best weapon, and maybe shoes racks in everyone's wardrobes so it's easy to deal with shoe overload.

I like both of those - the Made one is good and slimline.

We have a very narrow hallway (basically just the width of the front door), and shoes for DH, 2 x DDs and me go into this Ikea shoe cabinet, which takes about 8-12 pairs depending on shoe size/chunkiness or would do if the sodding kids ever put theirs away. The top is a handy ledge for keys etc. Coats go on a wall rack at the door of the stairs where we have an annoying boxed-in pipe that creates a natural-ish recess.

I've long had to accept though that open coat storage in the hall means you have to be really strict with how many coats each member of the family is allowed to keep there!

We have a similar hallway. In my mind there's no room for anything so we use the cupboard under the stairs or the newel post at the bottom of the stairs for coats and window seat storage for DH's shoes. My shoes are all in the bedroom. No small people.

Next door has the same hallway with a row of hooks and piles of shoes! Looks okay (apart from her son's filthy work boots which winds her up no end).

I'm not fussy about many things but a clear hallway is one of them.

But if I needed one, I would go for the Wayfair one. In fact I want one of those for our guest room. The Made one is stylish but looks a bit flimsy and the hooks look like they would barely hold one coat.

Thank you everyone for your ideas and help. I agree re the Made hangers, they don't look as though they'll take many coats but I suppose that's the point, so it doesn't get overloaded.

I'm also having a think about just keeping the coats where they are. It just leaves the wall opposite bare and I'm not sure whether or not to put up a couple of shelves as I want a diffuser in there and a couple of pictures.

Shoes are stored in bedrooms, not the hall or there would be a small mountain. But I take off my shoes when I get in and I want a small shelf or space to put my slippers that I put on when I get in and the shoes I've just take off.
