Advice, Farrow and Ball calamine or pink ground

Looking for views and advice about using Farrow and Ball calamine or pink ground in my north west facing bedroom. The fitted units are a modern gloss white style.

I'm aiming for a muted, relaxing space, but I'm worried with the white units it may look like a little girls bedroom, I don't want 'in your face' pink walls!

Any thoughts or suggestions if you've used these colours?

Thanks.

We used calamine in our DD's bedroom (shes 8) and yes, I'd say it's quite a sweet, girly bedroom colour...we have peignoir in our bedroom which is very calm and relaxing, the room is south west facing though, might be too pale for you.
What about sulking room pink? I think that's a gorgeous, sophisticated colour!

I've got Calamine in my office which as white units and there's nothing girly about it. It really depends on how you decorate it. I've got a yellow sofa and big multi coloured prints on the walls, lots of greenery with plants and it's a nice backdrop to that.

Mine's is a south facing room. I originally painted it white and it was too garish and the pink really muted it without being sickly.

Magicbabywaves · 20/03/2021 06:44

Calamine is my favourite of those two, however I ended up using Nancy’s Blushes so maybe I’m not the best to advise.!

merrymouse · 20/03/2021 06:47

I like calamine.

On the website some of the pictures/colour schemes include green/plum/neutral colours which make it look more grown up.

givememarmite · 20/03/2021 07:06

@Ulysses that sounds amazing! I guess you're right, it really depends how you decorate the rest of the room!

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 20/03/2021 08:02

I think it's a very flexible colour. If you are worried about it being too sugary then it, can be toned down by paring with neutrals, grey, ochre, teal etc.

I have blush accents paired with a very pale/muted ochre curtains in my bedroom and it works really nicely. Smile

We have calamine in our lounge and in my office, it was actually DH who chose it for the lounge, it isn't at all little girly

Couple of pics of nice pale pink colour schemes that are not too 'French fancy'! Grin

Thank you for all the responses great to read this morning. They are really helpful. I'm taking note of the other colours suggested too, as those mentioned are the ones I'd liked too! (Might have to order more testers or a larger colour card at this rate, just to make sure!)

Calamine seems a flexible colour. Ulysses, the colours in your office sound lovely, similar to the colours of our accessories, so that's reassuring.

Thanks for the image too, I'd not spotted that in my browsing. I'm off the look at the colour chart chart again, against my pinky brown patterned curtains in daylight and will reread the posts above. Lots of helpful thoughts, thanks.

Pink Ground is quite peachy and in a West facing room it will look even more peachy. So depends whether you want pink or peach.

Calamine can look greyish or mauve in a N facing room whereas it warms up nicely in a S or W facing room. Since are NW it may be ok hard to tell without seeing in person tbh.

minipie · 20/03/2021 09:16

PS we have Setting Plaster in a NW facing room with lots of white (white woodwork and cupboards) and it works brilliantly - really warms the room up.

Crazzzycat · 20/03/2021 09:23

I have Pink Ground in my bedroom. I’d describe it as quite a sophisticated, warm pink, not childish at all. I was originally a bit worried about an entirely pink room being a bit much, so I combined it with this dark botanical wallpaper. I think it would have been fine by itself, but having something this dramatic definitely gets rid of any associations of little girl’s bedrooms

Thanks mini pie, that's useful information, I think I'll be best ordering testers ASAP!

Crazzzycat, that's lovely wallpaper, thanks for idea, I had wondered about papering one wall. Think I'd better get large paint samples done and pinned up on walls first😊

Pink Ground is beautiful. It has a yellow base. If you tell F&B what direction your room faces, they should be able to tell you what colour it will 'read' in you room.

Robinonaspade · 20/03/2021 10:32

Thethoughtfox that's really helpful, I will try that next. I'm sat here trying to limit the number of testers I want to order, and match up the tiny swatches with my curtains! There's so many lovely colours it's so hard!! 😀

I’ve fallen into this thread when looking online for colours paler than F&B calamine. The room is long and thin south facing so I’ve put it on a darker wall and brighter wall but I feel the colour is too solid. It’s for a lounge and am planning to get a dark green sofa. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Flashinggreen · 23/03/2024 23:20

Has anyone used Taylor tack?

CultOfTheAirFryer · 24/03/2024 00:42

I have calamine and, on reflection, wish I had gone with pink ground. I think I’ll repaint in time. The calamine is too pink, almost lilac, in artificial light at night. Looks lovely in the daytime, but this is a bedroom so evening light is important.

Taylor tack was barely even pink, I discounted it.

ToMissAdventure · 24/03/2024 15:20

@CultOfTheAirFryer did Tailor Tack look like a slightly pinkish cream? I’ve used pink ground in my living room and calamine in my kitchen but am looking for a more subtle colour for a bedroom and thought Tailor Tack might be ivory with a pink warmth to it

Icehockeyflowers · 24/03/2024 19:08

I repainted calamine as it looked lilac on our walls (small downstairs loo).

Tried pink ground but it was too pink for my liking.

Setting plaster was nicer than both of the above.

Went for white in the end as I couldn't find 'the one'.

Flashinggreen · 24/03/2024 19:14

Taylor tack in now on the wall with calamine and dulux pink blush, it’s pale but quite pink, I want something more muted.

Flashinggreen · 24/03/2024 19:15

DH thinks setting plaster will make the room look unfinished and thinks it’s a ridiculous colour 😂

Is he interested in interior design or is he like my DH and has an unfounded opinion based on nothing much.

Has he tried a sample of setting plaster paint colour?

Flashinggreen · 24/03/2024 19:52

Of course not but thinks it will look just like setting plaster and so will look like the room is unfinished

Icehockeyflowers · 24/03/2024 19:57

Farrow and Ball paint varies depending on the light and room orientation. Setting plaster is a really beautiful peachy colour - I think its use is better in a sunny, bright room and my house is anything but sunny and bright so I've never been able to use it either. I've tried it though and it has a lot more depth and is 'dirtier' than pink ground so its a good option for the poster who is concerned that pink ground is more for a little girl's room (which I'd agree with tbh).
