Dulux White Jasmine too yellow!

Sorry, it’s another white paint thread. Flowers

I have had a water leak and my living room needs to be repainted, so it is the perfect opportunity to get rid of the said Dulux White Jasmine paint. This paint looks lovely on a bright sunny morning, but as the sun moves it changes to a yellowish shade of white. As I mostly use the room in the afternoon and evening, I am looking for a white that won’t look yellowish when the light isn’t so good and under artificial light.

The room faces the East and I prefer to use Dulux. Any suggestions are gratefully received. Smile

Would good old Pure Brilliant White not work? You want something cool toned, white and fresh that doesn’t lean yellow or cream. PBW will fit that bill and be cost effective too.

Livingoffroyalities · 17/03/2021 11:59

We have PBW in our open plan kitchen/dining/living area and it does look good. I just didn’t want the same paint throughout and something softer, but maybe I am overthinking it. I am sure we have some in the garage, so will be an easy one to test. Thanks Ballad.

Dulux White Mist is lovely, we have that all through the downstairs. Nice and crisp without being cold.

Rock Salt is nice too but on the grey side.

pinkseal · 17/03/2021 16:13

We have Dulux Almond White in one of our bedrooms (North facing) and throughout the hallway and landing and I like it in ALL the lights. I didn't want a yellowy white either, or one that went greenish.

Shandilarr · 17/03/2021 16:52

Sulus Timeless is nice, it's on the greeny side of white rather than yellowy. It's not too greeny though. Just a nice off white that's not yellowy.

If anyone's interested it's also the EXACT colour match for Farrow and Ball's Pointing. It really is the same colour!

Dreamponytail · 17/03/2021 17:04

Dulux Light & Space is good, I've used Morning Light and Moon Shimmer and they both work well in all different sorts of light, they are light reflecting (not that you'd notice, they aren't sparkly!) They seem to hold their colour well and don't do that thing of changing depending on the sunlight. I'd definitely recommend trying testers of them.

StCharlotte · 17/03/2021 18:19

I second Dulux Timeless.

Livingoffroyalities · 17/03/2021 18:45

Oooohhh, lots of suggestions!

I was thinking of Timeless, but thought if I found White Jasmine too yellow, then I would also fine Timeless to be the same (in that particular room).

Yes I agree, I think Rock Salt will be too grey. Will take a look at White Mist and Almond White.

Timeless here too.

JorisBonson · 17/03/2021 19:39

Can't recommend white most enough @Livingoffroyalities. Our living room gets all the morning sun and it looks lovely and warm

Torvi · 17/03/2021 20:18

I'm sat looking at a swatch of Timeless now in my living room as I'm looking for a neutral without a yellow or pink undertone. It's definitely not yellow or pink, it's very neutral with a slight soft grey undertone.

pinkywinks · 17/03/2021 20:26

We have just painted our living room in Timeless and its perfect, just a shade less white than Pure Brilliant White but not yellowy at all.

TurnStone · 17/03/2021 20:53

Have a look at Dulux Fine Cream, it's a non yellowy off-white we have throughout.

Shandilarr · 17/03/2021 22:05

@Livingoffroyalities No Timeless wont be the same as the jasmine white. Paint a bit of your room with a sample pot and see what it's like in the different lights at all times of day. When I said it's greeny it's really not green, just not yellow or the awful peach of magnolia. Lots of people on this thread have agreed with the Timeless suggestion. Give it a go!

userxx · 17/03/2021 22:14

Jasmine white looks lovely in my north facing darkish lounge but friggin hideous in the light and bright south facing kitchen, it gets more yellow by the hour. Wish I'd gone with timeless.

TableNiner · 17/03/2021 22:35

I could have posted this. I deliberated over two samples, Jasmine White and Timeless, for ages and in an east facing room there just didn’t seem to be a difference, regardless of the time of day. I’m also now wondering about repainting in PBW, just worry it might look a bit cold. I’m also looking at Dukux Absolute White

We had Timeless in our kitchen (NE facing) but it was too white so it was repainted in Natural Calico which looks perfect. It's not too creamy but is a nice neutral off-white

UnleashTheKraken · 19/03/2021 19:44

Dulux Trade White right be worth a look - warmer than PBW but much less yellow than jasmine white

CaledonianMacBrayne · 19/03/2021 19:48

Try Jabot

QueenPaw · 19/03/2021 19:49

How about white cotton?

Livingoffroyalities · 21/03/2021 10:30

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I have driven myself mad looking at paint charts this weekend and learning about hexadecimal colour codes, although I am still none the wiser! Grin

I have found pots of PBW and White Cotton in the garage and have just ordered tester pots of Timeless and Bleached Lichen 4. I will report back........

I find timeless too greeny/dirty looking in a room without good light.
