Bathroom revamp - help!

Have endured a horrible bathroom since we moved in 30 years ago. It was perfectly functional but really not my choice. Salmon & white marble-y tiles, fancy border, ropey edges on bath, basin etc. Very 90s. It is small, only the width of the bath. So less than 2m x 2m with a big extra where the door is.

So hoping to get it done this year at last:
Wish list and questions:

  1. Thinking of removing bath and putting in walk in shower- not planning on moving/no small kids/everyone in house prefers showers. Good idea? Any regrets?
  2. If putting in walk-in shower - would you put in shower tray size of bath or shorter to have tiled bit near end 'drying area' ? (There'd be one glass panel enclosing shower)
  3. Or would you tile the shower floor to match rest of floor - plumber says it'll be the same price either way. Worried that tiled floor/grouting will be harder to clean.
  4. Wall hung vanity or floor standing? Drawers or doors?
  5. Heated towel rack/radiators? Hot enough?

Really appreciate hearing your experiences.

That should say - 20 years ago - can't edit! Not that it matters really.

Just got mine done - small bathroom also. The shower tray is the full length with the shower screen going about half way. Wet wall right round bathroon with feature wall at shower. We have utilities on the floor, toilet and vanity - means there is far less mess and nowhere to collect dust - absolute doddle to clean and very happy with it.

  1. I’d put in a fab shower, we never use our bath
  2. I prefer a really good shower tray like a Bette, but I hate cleaning grout
  3. Wall hung sink with draws, will be more modern
4 Heated towel rail and underfloor heating will make it lovely and cosy

Also
5 you could have a heated mirror so it does not fog up
6 charger for electric tooth brush ?

Do you have a photo cats? That's exactly what I want in ours!

Will try and upload a photo tomorrow - two of my sons have just gone for a shower - it's easy to clean but they are never out of it!

Our downstairs bathroom has a walk-in shower that I loved, so when we were getting our upstairs bathroom done recently, I thought it would be a good idea to get rid of the bath and just have a huge shower.... My kids (ks2 and teens) weren't happy about that, so I compromised to keep the bath and also have a slightly smaller walk-in shower (90x120) that uses part of the bath side as he end wall. It works perfectly and we've all really enjoyed using the bath since, so it's a good job we kept it!

I took the bath out of my en suite and went for a big walk-in shower with a glass panel. I love it. We kept the bath in the main bathroom but only really because we have a young child, the adults don't use it and wouldn't miss it. I say go for it, I think you're more likely to regret not doing it.

Our bathroom is small and the door is hung to open outwards which makes a difference, we also have put a cupboard high up on the wall as that is often dead space and stuff that isn't used that much is on the high shelf

Thanks everyone. Sounds like we won't regret the walk-in shower. Any more opinions on tiled vs shower tray?
