Our sitting room and dining room are connected by a wide arch (though the arch is on one end of the long wall of the sitting room, so they don't really feel at all like one big room, if you know what I mean).
I'm wondering can I paint them different colours. The light is very different in each. The dining room has a south facing patio door and the sitting room has a big west facing window overlooking the garden, so even though they're both the same magnolia (since before we moved in, so I haven't seen them any other way), the dining room is slightly yellower, while the sitting room has noticeably greener cast, especially in the summer. It makes the sitting room feel a little dingier on sunny days, even though it gets plenty of light.
Any thoughts? I sort of want to paint the sitting room green and the dining room sort of mushroom, but I'm afraid it'll exaggerate the green cast. Would doing it the other way round work?
I know it sounds like desperate overthinking but I've never such a pronounced difference in light colours between connected rooms and I haven't a clue what to do with it.
How about a yellow in the sitting room, sort of buttery territory but a very warm butter with a slightly red undertone to keep it warm?
