If I'm painting my kitchen cupboards do I need to prime first?

My routine was going to be: washing thoroughly with sugar soap, sanding down and then painting but so I NEED to use a printer before the paint?

Thanks in advance:-)

I didn't, but I'm a bit lazy. By the way, I recommend liquid sandpaper, if you haven't tried it.

Personally I would prime first, as it should help it be more robust if the paint adheres to the surface better. But I’m quite clumsy so kitchen cupboards would get he odd bump and bash in my house!

I'm part way through doing my wooden units with F&b eggshell.. I've sugar soaped/sanded and applied 2 coats of paint.
Seem to be holding up pretty well against general wear & tear. First ones were painted 6 months ago, that's how slowly it's going!

Just to add, I didn't prime first as the units are wood which has already been painted in a similar colour, however if your units aren't wood then I would definitely consider a primer first.
