Blank canvas eh? Totally unrelated to decor: are you sure the door orientations are all going to work? You have to walk around the bedroom door itself and the door to the landing(?) where the wardrobe is opens onto the wardrobe. I can imagine doors bashing into each other. Also visually it might work better for the bedroom door to be hung the other way so that you open it towards the bed.

Sorry, that should read you have to walk around the bedroom door itself to get to the wardrobe and the door to the landing...

This is just how it’s laid out! I’ve had nothing to do with the door placements!

But the bedroom door is opening inwards towards the bed already, the wardrobe is in the little cupboard outside because it’s already a cupboard and means we don’t have to try and squeeze a wardrobe into an already difficult to plan space haha

The lines are stairs so at the top of the stairs there the door in front to the wardrobe, and the door to the left is the master bedroom

@IstandwithJackieWeaver sorry about all the messages, you can’t edit and I kept thinking of other things I might need to explain haha

I hope I haven't derailed/put people off responding - this board is quite quiet though. I'd think I look at wallpapering one of the long walls with something like this as you've two velux windows, but the view is of the sky. I can't tell if the floor is carpeted or it's the subfloor. What's your furniture like? Dark natural wood would give it a plantation feel. There are lots of other nature inspired wallpapers around if that's too much or just not to your taste.

Your drawing is pretty much what I'd do. I'd put a comfy chair where the desk is though. I live white & id love it exactly how it is, but if I really wanted to 'do' something I'd look at wallpapering the slopey wall in one if the navy/green/pink modern floral papers and the other walks pink

Lovely space, nice light!

Is that a carpet that is staying that you need to work with?
What’s your style, what are you going for? Is this a functioning workspace as well or is the desk just for occasional home admin type use?
Are you tv in the bedroom people does that need factoring in?
What kind of headboard are you thinking for the bed - dramatic or low-key?
It doesn’t look from the photos like you’ll have enough space for desk & bookcase where you have them on the plan (and be able to actually sit at the desk without the window open), although assuming you’ve measured. If not may need to readjust that layout and zoning that part off another way - perhaps colour blocking that section of wall.

Anyway, assuming that is the colour of the floor, I’d be thinking jade, teal, dark purple (although that is my answer to every colour question Grin), silvers, picking up contrast with fuschia/magenta perhaps. I’d be looking to put colour everywhere including the ceiling and the slopes but lighter on those surfaces. I’d paint the woodwork the same colours as the walls they’re in to help the space feel taller.

Also think about how you’re going to get the bed up there. We had difficulty getting our king size upstairs in our old flat when it was delivered flatpack. The angles on your stairs/doorway look like they could make getting big stuff up there quite tricky.

Thanks for your responses!

The floor is the carpet and the only thing that needs to be considered colour wise, the desk does need to be part of the design as it has to double as my husbands work space! I have measured and there is plenty of space (nearly 2 metres between door and wall but obviously some of that is unusable due to slope) I was also thinking of fitting cabinets along the wall instead and having the desk that way?

Kind of like this (please ignore the crude drawing, hoping it makes sense)

Only issue is budget, we have £4000 to spend doing it but that does have to buy a new bed and mattress! Now sure how much cabinets like that will set us back, I’m pretty handy but carpentry is a skill I have to learn haha! Didn’t know if kitchen cabinets without the legs/plinths would work? Maybe taking the back off to allow for full depth space (there would be 7 inches out the back unused)

I can't work out where the cabinets would go in relation to the room. Spend the money on a good bed and mattress and see where he actually ends up working when at home. Separation between work and sleep space is desirable and if your DH is anything like my DP, he'll migrate to where he likes to be when when working at home, never mind where the desk is!

I’d paint walls and ceiling in just one colour to create a greater sense of airiness by blurring edges, planes and boundaries.

I just moved my WFH space out of the bedroom as it was dramatically affecting my sleep. Not sure what other options you have but I’d suggest not planning your bedroom around including the office space, especially not spending any budget or committing to built-ins, because he may soon decide any other space in the house is preferable.

You could have the doors rehung if that would help.

I’d probably spend my budget on moving the radiator then getting a low-style bed and orienting the headboard where the radiator was. Cubbyhole can double as one of the nightstands, you could add shelves to it for books. Then chest of drawers and a chair at the other end.

The carpet is such a dramatic colour I’d be inclined to keep everything else white, but if you do paint/wallpaper, do it all over, even on sloping ceilings – feature walls are a bit naff and will chop up the space.

Unfortunately we don’t have any other options for office space! My husbands current office is becoming a bedroom for our latest arrival so it’s bedroom or nowhere unfortunately!

The carpet colour really is just silvery grey so I would like to add some colour somewhere, I’ll see where we are at, maybe I’ll buy some paint and just paint testers all over the place until I find one I like/think works in the space

Based on assessing the psychological and emotional effects colors can have on you, perhaps the best colors for a master bedroom are blue, yellow, and brown. Blue is a naturally inviting and relaxing color that will promote healthy sleep as well as a great environment for general relaxation.
