Small North East Office/Chill Room considering going dark with Hague Blue

Hi All, I have always been looking and using lighter colours, but, I have bought my own property and to be fair as I’m not selling it anytime soon, maybe it’s OK to try something new, so I after looking at photos, am considering going completely darker in my ‘man cave’ room, with something like matt Hague Blue? I mean becuase it’s a small rooom so do it everywhere including the painted ceiling and the skirting and coving (one day I would love to add some square modern panelling too, but that’s for another time). To be fair, room never gets much light enough, so I’m thinking I may as well work with it and use lighting and lamps and perhaps a new sofa make it a cosy room instead? What’s your thoughts? What is a fair price to pay a decorator who will do a good job and maybe do it right? Final question is if I really hate it, do I have to pay a skimmer to get it all back to white again or can you paint back white again on Hague Blue? I remember being told by my one of my parents a long time ago don’t bother painting a wall in a dark colour as it will cost you a fortune to get it off, although they were referring to the horrible paint in the seventies. Is there any way I could more or less on a computer to see what it could look like before doing it all? Some software I could learn or service I could pay for (without it costing the earth)? I wouldn’t mind having a basic idea to avoid doing something I may or may not love or hate, specifically as I have chronic fatigue, so everything seems to take me longer to do or uses up so much energy.
Many thanks.

I can’t answer all your questions, but no there’s no need to have your walls skimmed to get rid of a dark colour. You can just paint over it. It may take quite a few coats, but you’ll cover it eventually!

I know you’re looking at a Farrow and Ball colour, but Dulux have a free visualiser app, which lets you “try” any of their colours in your room. You could just pick one of their dark blue colours to get an idea of what that would look like in your room.

I don’t have any experience with painting a whole room in such a dark colour, but I’m sure there will be some advice on how to make a dark room look great available online. I imagine you’ll need some good lighting!

Many thanks. I just tried this app. It’s very difficult to use, for instance it kept painting my ceilings too, but I do like what is see so going to go with it. Good to know you can paint on dark colours so wish me luck. Will post pic once I have got round to painting it :)

I would keep the ceiling white. A dark ceiling can feel low and oppressive.

Do just the walls and then see how you feel
