We considered it but then thought about the heat and the cables and didn't research further. It could look nice but also my eyes hurt when I look at fire so wouldn't want to risk my tv enjoyment!

GwendolineWindowlene · 06/02/2021 12:51

Nooooooo! Your fire is beautiful. TVs above fireplaces are all kinds of wrong, just too high and ugly compared to the alternatives like a mirror or a picture.

ImsorryWilson · 06/02/2021 12:56

Ok.
Plan B?
We can move the radiators and light

Does it have to be on a wall? I think smaller rooms look so much cosier with the TV in the corner. Definitely need to be around eye level when you're sitting down.

ImsorryWilson · 06/02/2021 13:01

It’s a decent size room 4m by 5.5 m ish but a through lounge which limits things ( it’S a thoroughfare)

When we had our television on the wall I ended up with a terrible stiff neck from looking up for prolonged periods every night which only went when we moved it back onto a stand. Same thing happened to my SIL. We were both late 50s at the time though. It might not happen if you're younger and presumably more supple and active.

EventuallyDeleted · 06/02/2021 13:34

I agree with the others, above the fireplace is too high, if you have it on a wall it needs to be fairly low down so you are looking at it rather than tilting your head back. We still have ours on a corner stand for this reason.

MissisBoote · 06/02/2021 13:40

Is it your main sitting room? Does all the existing furniture need to stay there?

How about drawing a diagram of what it's like atm?

Bluntness100 · 06/02/2021 13:44

It needs to be a certai clearance from the wood burner, and ensure it’s insulated enough to not cause problems. Plus it’s too high

I’d put it to the side.

AlwaysLatte · 06/02/2021 13:53

I think it totally ruins the look when there's a cosy log burner, and it would be much too high. I'd favour it on a stand to the left or right of it.

LemonViolet · 06/02/2021 13:54

Can it be tucked in one of the nooks either side of the fireplace, perhaps at a slight angle in a built-in unit.

redcandlelight · 06/02/2021 13:57

if you have neighbours on the other side of that wall: don't!
but generally above a fireplace is too high to watch tv comfortably.

Bilgepumper · 06/02/2021 13:58

Definitely not, think of the neck ache.

Honeyroar · 06/02/2021 14:00

We thought about it for the living room that we’re doing up. We too have a log burner in an old character cottage. We decided that it’s too high up for watching tv, and also that it looks so ugly when not in use compared to a mirror or picture. So we’ve decided to build a corner unit and have the tv on there.

Bluntness100 · 06/02/2021 14:25

Op, can you post a pic of the whole wall where the fire place is, as in a pic that shows both sides as well?

ImsorryWilson · 06/02/2021 14:32

Will do.....

Hmmm, am actually not sure how to show you all the tv options so will start a new thread on mirror options for above that fireplace.....

I see you have a small TV in the alcove. We’ve just had alcove cupboards built in, and our TV is now on a bracket on the side wall so it can be pulled out to watch then pushed back when off. I’m really pleased with it!
