Edwardian Semi exterior

I need a colour for house exterior. am having new timber casement and sash windows made and would like to paint them Cromarty.

House is an Edwardian semi and currently painted, so brick not an option. Does anyone have a masonry colour suggestion that would compliment the.windows? (I'm pushing for a powder pink front door at the moment). Thank you.

Hi - some photos would be a big help. So much easier with a few images.

Also if you can say you are after lighter/darker/greyer/more colourful than Cromarty?

What colour is the roof?

All those are impactful on suggestions.

HI @colette100 I was hoping you'd come along with your lovely colour wheel :)

Exterior attached.

Happy to pain the terracotta tiles out over the front door - a few others on the street have and it looks better (one less colour to worry about complimenting)

Really don't want white window frames.

And there will be shutters not curtains and probably a brick and railing wall if that's relevant.

Sorry - I didn't answer your other question.

Originally I wanted the window frames to be darker than the rest of the house and was thinking a darker green/grey, but I am now wondering about a lighter masonry which would be more in keeping with the rest of the street. Open to suggestions - even on the Cromarty,!

Going to have a play. 🌈

P.s. Can also recommend having a look at the new Little Greene ‘Stone’ collection just released, with graduated colours from different Hue Families.

A few suggestions to get the ball rolling,,

Just to note that it’s possible to use slightly darker & more colourful options than you might first think outside.

Daylight will often both bleach-out + grey colours on an exterior.

Any choices need testing (board x 2 coats), not directly on to walls.

Love these palettes. Thank you!

What would be your best suggestion? I won't hold you to it, but I'm curious...

I would be interested to see those greenish colours outside, knowing they have the potential to shift blue in some inside lighting situations.

If they hold more true in daylight, I think they could look really good with your roofing colour.

I know already I like the other colours with lots of orange brick & tile.

If you can pull some large chips of any colours at all and view them outside, you may be surprised at how colourful you need to get before it actually reads as a definite colour.

Alternatively you may be surprised you don’t need quite such a super light & neutral colour to read as a ‘white or off-white’.

Brilliant - thank you. And really Interesting. Well there is lots of renovation going on so I could easily paint some 'rubble' and see what colour it is outside at different times of day.

Also - can I just check? BM = Benjamin Moore?

Good to know that I can go 'brighter' than my gut instinct. I did Cornforth White window frames on my old house and they weren't half as 'colourful' as I was expecting....

I am a rubble painter too!

Sorry Yes - BM = Benjamin Moore. They are really very helpful and fast off the mark for sending paint chips.

Their Color Portfolio App gives you free digital fan decks which are kind of fun to use. No substitute for actual chips but great just to get you in the ball-park.

If you make a note of the of a colour you like outside, because of its Lightness or Value. That gives a frame of reference.

Same for the strength of colour (Chroma).

Then its possible to find alternative colours with both similar lightness + chroma - to get you even closer.

I’ve got an Edward end terrace and we decided to go sulking room pink (not done yet)

It’s currently painted a kind of stony colour

Neighbours are all a mix of grey, blue and green

colette100 · 08/02/2021 19:48

Would love to see that when you are done, if you would care to share photos?

Yes, please share the after photos. It looks a lovely house. I love Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian best. DD lived for two years in a gorgeous Georgian terrace when she was at Uni. We have a Victorian Cottage.

I would 100 percent do sulking room pink if it were down to me. Our compromise is a pink door (calamine or pink ground probably)

Yes, will update with finished pics when complete!
