Paint recommendations for dark, dreary rooms

Help.

Lockdown has broken me and in a desperate attempt to alleviate the boredom I am finally getting round to decorating the spare bedroom that has been neglected since we bought the house five years ago.
Currently it’s used as my husband’s office/guest room and he really couldn’t care less about the gaudy and peeling purple and gold damask wallpapered ‘feature wall’ 🤢, nor the dingy white walls.
It’s awful and I’m always supremely apologetic when guests come to stay.
The room is in our basement off our laundry room and, coupled being subterranean and with our Scottish climate receives little to no natural sunlight.

The paper is going, and I’m wanting to refresh the walls with a warm, inoffensive neutral to brighten it up. DH insists that the walls must be white to counteract the lack of sunlight, but I think white will leave the room feeling dull, dreary, and sterile.
I think I can get away with an off-white (ah, middle class martial compromise. Arguing about beige.) which will appease everyone.

Does anyone have any experience decorating dark rooms with no natural sunlight?
I’m looking for specific paint colour recommendations, preferably available at B&Q as it’s my nearest diy in my travel resisted area. Pretty, pretty please.

No experience of this, but perhaps a light coloured pearlescent paint may help.

Dulux do a paint range called Light and Space, which has light reflecting particles in it. The range of colours is a bit limited, but I’m sure any of those will help to brighten the room. Not sure if it’s available in B&Q, but if not, it can be found online
