Coving and ceiling roses

Hi,

I moved into a house 6 months ago and this year I want to decorate the living room.

There’s existing coving around the top of the room. I don’t know if it’s original or not, but it has some cracks and chips in it. My question is, do I try and restore this, or do I rip it out and get new coving?

I also want a ceiling rose, but don’t know how to choose this....in terms of size etc.

Also, if I had mew coving, and a ceiling rose, do you paint these, even if I want them leaving white?

First time owner so all advice welcome!

All long as the coving is not the cheap nasty poly stuff it is easy to repair as it is made of plaster and you repair it with plaster.
Ceiling rose is a matter of taste, the size of the chandelier you will hang and the overall size of the room. They can be anything from plain to quite ornate so again it is just a matter of taste. A google search will bring up some ideas to start you off..

And yes they do need painting. New a mist undercoat and then probably two top coats in whatever finish you decide on.
