Teenage den/games room help (with photos)

Hi
We inherited the pool table and the naff carpet with the house. The plan is to replace the carpet with something neutral.

Our teenage boys are 18,15 and 14 so we’re wanting something more grown up. At the moment it’s become a dumping ground for random furniture!

We’d love a bigger TV but due to the pool table we can’t move the TV to the middle of the wall.

I was thinking of getting rid of the sofa and maybe getting a few big beanbags? Possibly painting the walls to make it more den like.

I’m feeling very uninspired and would love some ideas! It’s such a great room but we’re not making the most of it.

Pinterest is just overwhelming and very American so I couldn’t find any of the items!

Thanks.

@helpmabobby With interior design you start with a blank slate keeping only the items you want/have to. I am assuming the boys still use the pool table hence why you are keeping that.

The pool table is the only fixed thing ie you have to make sure it is level so it cannot be moved once placed. I can not see what is on the other walls or where you enter, a floor plan would help.

Scrap everything about where you have stuff. I prefer pencil and paper, draw a simple floor plan to scale. I am a big fan of 5cm = 1m so 1cm on the paper = 20cm in real life., cut out pieces of paper to scale for the pool table (plus playing space round it) the fuse ball table, then work out where else the pool table could go and then work round that.

There are hundreds of wall mural wallpapers, you choose one, input the size of the wall and then it comes like wallpaper. Or you could paint a mural, I am not talking a jungle scene but geometric shapes or large shapes in bright colours possibly overlapping with the another colour for the overlap.

It seems the TV is a priority so if the new and bigger tv goes where the map is, where else could the pool table go?

My sons have a converted double garage as a den, they were 3 and 6 when we moved in, now almost 18 and almost 15. The room has gone through a couple of re-jigs as their needs change.

I’d keep the sofa! Much better for sitting on!

If you got a really big tv you could put it on the middle wall. We have a similar set up but a exercise bike where your table is and a corner sofa where yours is and our tv is on the middle wall. We got a massive tv (you could see it from space) so no problem with viewing.

Big corner sofa, paint the walls a darker, cosier colour, some ambient lighting (various lamps, tall and floor sitting). Lots of usb plug sockets for charging phones/ipads/speakers.
You’ll need some light blocking curtains or blinds. Big TV where the map is now and a cabinet in the alcove for gaming equipment (XBox/Playstation and controllers, games, DVDs etc), glasses and possibly bottles if you trust your teenagers!
I’d put in a hard floor and add rugs with different textures. Prints on the walls and some fairy lights and the odd plant to soften it up a bit.
Take a look at Lisa Dawson’s style on Instagram, she has the kind of vibe I’m imagining, and similar shape/size/style rooms.

How fab to have your games room!
I wouLd go kind of 'sports bar' style with it.

Love the mural idea mentioned above. Or New York loft style.

I guess it depends on the style of the rest of your house.

Darker walls, wooden floors. Different kinds of lighting to make it dark and cosy for gaming or watching tv, and focused lighting over the pool table.

Thank you do much everyone. Unfortunately we can’t move the pool table over far enough to allow a big TV on that wall. The room isn’t deep enough for it go elsewhere. We may replace the TV with a bigger one. Darker walls sound good too. I think carpet will be better as the house is chilly and there’s 3 outside walls in that room. But rugs on top would be an idea.

Thanks again!
