Please help someone with no taste sort my bedroom

I desperately need some help! I have absolutely no taste or design flair and need to sort out my bedroom once and for all.

My husband and I are just rediscovering time together after babies so I am trying to get a romantic, cozy feel but not too feminine as obviously DH has to sleep in here as well.

Theme has always been white, grey, black. Red which are the colours I like.

Blinds cost a fortune and can’t be changed but I do need some curtains and poles. Should I get curtains the length of the windows or go for ‘to the floor’ curtains? I love my soft white bedding but would like a nice coloured bedspread over the top. I quite like the colour/pattern of the cover on the chair (it’s just an extra dining room chair covered as we have nowhere else to store it). Rugs could be changed but I do like thick, fluffy ones as the floor is very cold.

Really open to any ideas and words of advice.

I thought about finding a really nice bedspread to go over my white duvet with some colour in and then basing my room colours around that. Has anyone got any bedspreads they love?

This is similar to your chair.

Paint the wall behind your bed grey, add some photos above your bed, get throws and cushions, candles and plants. Ditch the red rug and chair and buy some white long curtains.

Re: the curtain rail. You're going to want the rail hung quite a bit higher than the window itself, and wider (200mm on either side). That is done to make the window look bigger and to stop the rail from making your ceiling look low.

Colours, avoid red in your bedroom. Maroon if you really have to, but in the accessories.

Bedspread and bedding, go for TEXTURE. 100% linen, or a textured waffle in a single, plain colour for the duvet cover, accent colours for cushions and throws. Do not buy a patterned cotton or polyester duvet cover.

long white sheer curtains

No, long white 100% linen curtains.

What other colours should I have to go with the white and grey? What about a light blue?

Will the white curtains look ok with the magnolia walls?

Instead of painting the wall behind your bed, how about some nice wall paper, just on that wall?

Graham & Brown do some lovely ones. I especially like some of their bolder papers, like the one I’ve attached a photo of. Their website also shows you what paint colours would go well with each paper, which makes the job of decorating a lot easier!

I would wallpaper behind the bed, paint the other walls a warmer colour (a taupe, or a warm white), look at the lighting in the room and get a throw for the bed. I’m not sure about curtains. I know this is controversial, but I think curtains can look quite fussy and, depending on the style of the room, don’t necessarily add much 🙈

@sausagepastapot what paint is that please, it's gorgeous.

Bedeck have 20 percent off at the moment.
Would you consider wallpapering a wall or two in a soft print?
I love watching YouTube makeovers for inspiration.

Can you move the bed so its at the other end of the room? (Opposite where it is now). Place a big (whst seems like oversized picture) above it. Go gor a darker colour on the bed head wall (part of the teason i suggest the wall without the door) floor length curtains on a pole ensuringvthe pole is quite a bit longer than the window is wide as this gives a feeling of space, a large mirror (again think very big) on the wall opposite the window as it bounces back light and a spacious feel and pictures on wall at foot of bed possibly in a co ordinated cluster areangement or line.

Yes to floor length curtains. It just needs a bit of colour. It looks like a nice room. Find something you really like and use that as a jumping off point. Whether that's a bedspread, curtains etc. Look into "warm" rather than "cool" colours.
