Using an interior designer

When using an interior designer to design floor plans, colour schemes, new furniture etc, is this just for people with an unlimited budget? I am completely stuck with one room in my house that needs doing from scratch, but I haven't got thousands to spend unfortunately.

Because I am on a tight budget I don't want to waste money on the wrong items, so figure a couple of hundred spent on a proper plan would be money well spent. Except I have no idea how much interior designers charge!

Has anyone used any of the online designers? I have tried programmes like roomstyler but that is not really what I am looking for. I want to be provided with a floor plan and a shopping list - that way I can't go wrong Grin

@Retreatandsurrender
I think you are very wise to want to invest a little bit of your budget into an interior designer. I hope you can find someone on the internet like you are thinking of....what a great idea! Fingers crossed that you find someone.
Years ago my DH wanted to surprise shock the heck out ofme with a living room makeover whilst I was visiting my parents in an area several 1000 miles away.
He was able to find a Int.D at the big box DIY store(HomeDepot) where he was buying the carpet and wallpaper. Her service was free of charge. She did an excellent jobeventhough it wasn't to my taste at all but at least it all matched
My DD is a professional colourist...her job is to make sure that the chosen colours are of the same tone...i.e. cool tone or warm tone....very subtle undertones make items either go together or not. Hardly ever will a cool tone work with a warm tone. And vice versa..it doesn't matter how hard you try and make them fit or how much money you spend, they will hardly ever work together...you might love both colours separately but put them together and the room will never feel right.
I didn't realise my daughter's talent until we went to a friend's unveiling party of her new redone living room. It was quite lovely but just didn't" feel " right. (my friend even said she was thinking of repainting the walls). When my daughter and I were in the car, she told me that the room was NEVER going to be 'just right ' because my friend had chosen wooden flooring that had a warm tone( at least 10 x 15 Square metres worth of real wood) and had put in a cool toned floor to ceiling hand- done stone fireplace ( 3x 6 metres). Unless my friend put down a gigantic rug or painted over the stone, she had wasted 10s of 1000s of dollars if not more.
Another idea, if you can't find someone to do what you'd like ... maybe you can go through tons of photos of decorated rooms until you find ones you like and then 'recreate' it with similar items from tkmaxx or Homesense.
Fingers crossed that you can find someone online SmileFlowers

Maybe even ask MNETTERS to post photos of their rooms that they love and pick from those...Grin

Thanks @Sweetpea1532 I think that’s what I’m worried about, that it just won’t look right.

I’ve found a print that I love, and looking at John Lewis (where the print is on sale) it goes really well with a pale pink sofa. So at least I’ve made a start Grin

I’ve also booked a virtual consultation with John Lewis, it’s free plus they provide a shopping list.

I've used John Lewis, she came to my house and picked out wallpaper, carpet, paint, blind material lamps etc, I loved it. No obligation to buy and I shopped elsewhere for my wallpaper but it gave me good ideas.

@MrsPerfect12 my virtual appointment is soon, I am so excited Grin Good to hear that you can buy certain items elsewhere as I havent got an unlimited budget sadly.

I suggest you look at Pinterest as it's so easy to create your own board and pin things you like. I think a room should evolve, not be created from scratch.
