Bedroom furniture to go with stiffkey blue

I have just had my bedroom painted stiffkey blue. Room is 6mx4.5m approx. Ceiling and paintwork is strong white. Curtains are a dark red taffeta. Am now wondering what to do about furniture. It's a completely blank canvas - can get "new" everything and need as much wardrobe space as possible. There's room for about 5-6m wardrobes in total (eg 2x1.5m and 1x2.5m). Would you go for painted wood furniture? Oak? I love the Portland range at the painted furniture company but worried about wardrobes looking blocky. Can't afford to make a mistake - these are the "forever" pieces of furniture. Please give me some ideas!

I have bedroom furniture in stiffkey blue. Walls are painted a medium grey and the two colours go well together. To go with a room painted stiffkey blue I’d go with painted furniture rather than oak - though perhaps with oak tops on chests of drawers etc. Furniture from the Cotswold Co is v good.

White painted built in wardrobes with Stiffkey blue

What's the bed like?

ValkyrieCain · 20/12/2020 20:12

Not got a bed yet. Was thinking a pewter coloured metal bedstead.

We’ve got Stiffkey Blue in one bedroom.

Current furniture is just white IKEA, but I’m planning on painting furniture in F&B Parma Gray which goes really well with it.

I've got my bedroom in teal tension, which whilst it's not blue it's a similar depth of colour. I've decided warm oak would look best plus I have a dark grey upholstered bed. That said, my living room is sapphire salute which is similar to Stiffkey blue and the furniture is white which looks a great contrast.

Stiffkey Blue belongs to the Purple-Blue Hue Family.

Thinking in terms of Hue Families can help before you plump for individual colours within them. Great for curating accessories, furnishings and textiles too.

They incorporate not only the more colourful colours but all whites, blacks, greys, near neutrals, wood, tile too.

Have a look at the Instagram account if Abigail Ahern. But sticking to only 3 Hue Families on the ground floor of her home gives her the confidence to choose dark, light, greyed, white, pastel & saturated versions from all 3.

We have stiffkey in our bedroom and en-suite. We have oak furniture, and coloured, patterned bedding. Always think it's one of my fave rooms in the house.

I've just done my sons room Stiffkey blue and I've gone with oak furniture I'm really happy with it (argos navaro)

We have the same colour and have walnut colour furniture and brass lighting. Looks stunning against the blue

Thanks all! I think we will go for painted wardrobes in an off-white (f&b ammonite) with a pewter bedstead and white and dark rose bedding. My friend has found someone who can customise furniture with fabric and wallpaper so will try and do that with bedside tables. I want to avoid too much "matchy matchy" so will look for some oak/walnut detailing too.

That sounds gorgeous. We also have dark rose bedding and it looks lovely
