Hi,
Can anyone give me some tips. I'm 56 and live alone. My house is starting to need some TLC and I'm struggling to find how to do this alone.
I'd like new bedroom carpets for example. When my husband was around we'd dismantled and move all the furnishings ready for the carpet layer. Then put it all back together and back in place.
I wouldn't have a clue how to do that on my own.
Are there companies that will it for you?
I could just do with a good old fashioned handy man. Do they still exist 🤷‍♀️
Many thanks to anyone with any ideas. 🙏

Last time we got carpets done there were some companies who were happy to move furniture out of the way (but would charge extra for this which is fair enough) and others who just wouldn’t and wanted the room cleared in advance.

So I would suggest you ring round local carpet suppliers (or fitters if you want to do supply and fit separately) and see who’s willing to do a bit of lugging. Though doubt they will be up for dismantling stuff.

Handymen definitely still exist, do you have a local online forum where you could ask for recommendations?

As above! Ask for local recommendations for general handyman stuff.

Does it actually need dismantling? Do
You have big wardrobes or similar? I've found that emptying the drawers and bedside table I can easily move them to another room.
And yea some carpet fitters will move furniture for an extra cost ask locally for recommendations

Equally we have a few 'property maintenance companies' near us, they seem to normally work for landlords but would go in, move furniture and paint and re carpet etc. More
Expensive than just a decorator but you can just leave them to it really

The carpet company will do it. But a reliable handyman is worth their weight on gold. If you can't find one through word if mouth, there are plenty of companies that fill this role: Google it.

Thanks everyone.
Those replies were really useful. I'm gonna find myself a 'handyman' 😃

I've found local Facebook or Nextdoor groups are really good for finding a handyman.

Local Facebook groups are usually a good place to find recommendations.
