What type of carpet?

We are getting the house renovated, which includes the floor throughout. Downstairs is having wooden parquet, then for the stairs we are getting a herringbone runner. The bedrooms are having carpet.

I have 2 questions:

  1. Do we want to continue the herringbone runner throughout the hallway (we are getting a loft extension so there will be two staircases and two hallways) and then a nicer soft carpet for the bedrooms, or do we want the runner just on the stairs, then the carpet for the hallways and bedrooms?

  2. What type of carpet is the best for bedrooms. One will be an office (with potential for 3rd baby's bedroom, if we decide to have another), and other 3 all bedrooms. 2 are toddlers so need to be fairly stain resistant but I'd like them to be soft, and want the same carpet for all 4 rooms. I quite like the colour in the picture attached but I'm hoping someone can tell me the types of carpet that are soft but also hard wearing (eg won't go flat after a year) but will also not get stained to buggery. Budget is reasonable, and would be open to spending a lot if it was really worth it.

Any recommendations?

I'd go for the herringbone on the stairs only and have the hallway the same as the bedrooms looks wise

But you can probably go for a 'less hard wearing' carpet in the bedrooms if you use the herringbone in the hallway.

I'd consider going for a harder wearing carpet in the office as you're likely to end up with tracking in there. You can get matching but different grade to the bedrooms.

(Much easier to get baby stains out of too!)
