Curtains, to the window sill or to the floor?

We do have white wooden venetian blinds and at the moment and floor length (actually longer but unless they are made to measure just get standard 229cm for floor length).

I've ordered new curtains and have tried them, these are just to the window sill. I'm not sure if i like them or not! Because they aren't going to be 'used' and just there for 'decoration' I don't want to spend a lot but I don't want just plain cotton, I've found out from before that curtains in our lounge need to have texture. My old ones are a natural colour textured weave and these new ones are like a pale pink, silk textured but look almost velvet/suede. We have one navy painted wall, the others are white and a beige fabric sofa. The pink does look well with the navy wall and beige sofa but I just have a little niggle, are pink curtains for kids bedrooms? Maybe the longer length may be better .

Floor length always. I had pink curtains in my first house and they were divine and always complimented.

I ditched my there for decoration curtains. I think they look a little silly with Venetians. I am a bit minimalist though and they got on my nerves Grin

To the floor though if you are having them.

If you are not closing them, to the floor. If you are likely to wash them, allow for shrinkage.

I'm going against the flow, as I'm going to reinstate my old windowsill length ones, as I have radiators under the windows.

Always to the floor.

I'd never cover the radiators with curtains, makes no sense. If you don't have radiators under the window, floor length.

harryandmarv · 28/11/2020 14:04

Yeah there’s a radiator under the window but like I said we don’t close the curtains. I’ll try the longer length ones in the pink & see how they look.

To the floor and hang your curtain rail closer to the ceiling. For example if the gap above the window to the ceiling is 90cm, hang the rod 30 cm below the ceiling rather than 30cm above the window if that makes sense? Makes your ceiling appear higher

If they are decorative definitively to the floor.
In living /dining / family etc rooms I prefer to the floor - this is a right PITA in our house as the drop is a massive 2.8m in the living room and 3.2m in the dining room.
I'm more flexible in bedrooms as they seem to have more windows with rads underneath in which case they should be just long enough to tuck curtains behind the top of the rad at night.

I am always in the minority on MN on this but I would pick just below the sill.

Living/dining room I have floor length as I'm prepared to spend more money on them and personal preference. Bedrooms I buy window sill length, and cheaper ones as I've replaced more often with changing colour schemes.

I have a dog . Who likes to stand on curtains. So I've ditched the to the floor and now get a 72" drop . No more muddy paw prints on dry clean only curtains.

Benjispruce2 · 29/11/2020 16:06

Always floor.
