I am hopeless with this sort of thing.
Getting round to decorating hallway (actually a tiny lobby) for first time in about 10 years.
Will list some of the features/problems to paint (no pun intended!) the scene:
What we have:
We are far north.
Front door is white inside with a glass panel. North-facing coastal.
Entrance area is 1m x 2m. Dark brown carpet tile.
Have a sandy coloured carpet on stairs.
Stairs go straight up from front door with a large window at top (south-facing).
Stairs narrow and in poor condition with a bowed bit on one side.
Entrance area very little natural light, stairs a bit better.
All woodwork is cream gloss currently. Walls a yellow ochre colour. Wallpaper flat, shows bumps and in poor condition.
What we want:
Panelling in entrance and stair walls. Historic 200 yo house with poor walls.
Light, fresh, warm look is possible. - Jasmine White for walls?
Anyglypta paper with random pattern to help even out defects?
What type of panelling?
What colours for walls, architraves and panelling?
If we picked Jasmine White for walls, what should the other colours be?
Willing to change colour of carpet tiles to make something work, but would need to be darkish to not show dirt too easily.
Space is tiny - should we have same colour for woodwork and panels?
Haven't a clue about this sort of thing and budget is pretty tight!
Would appreciate your help.
