Painting office ....

So we've spent the weekend moving son into a bigger bedroom so I can have his smaller bedroom for an office. I've WFH for years but gave DH my office for lockdown 1 and 2 as he's always on the phone or zoom so I've been at the dining table but my back can't take it anymore. No sign of DH going back to London, is WFH fine. Son's room is currently pale green and coffee colours and I intend to paint this week before I move too much furniture in. Room gets a lot of sun, house is SW facing. I'd like to use this strong green, it makes me feel happy but is it too much on all walls? There is no coving to contrast, only the thin skirting boards and ceiling.

Second pic is room now. Ignore the tiny desk, that's only until I've painted and then me and DH will swap desks so I get the ergonomic and much bigger one 😊

That green makes you happy? If so, why change if? Quite dark & oppressive for me on that photo & I wonder if it’s different in reality. Seriously, if you walk into that room and it makes you feel happy then that’s a massive plus!!

NotDonna · 08/11/2020 23:31

Sorry, misunderstood!! The photo on the left makes you feel happy! It’s strong (and not my taste) but again if you love it why not. I actually love skirting painted same as wall colour and you could definitely do that here. You have to embrace your happy colours!

Crazzzycat · 09/11/2020 01:11

I think that green would look lovely. Yes, it’s strong, but it’s also quite natural looking, so I don’t think it’d be too much

NiceGerbil · 09/11/2020 01:16

First looks lovely.

Second is sludgy and a bit depressing. Sorry.

Have whatever colour you want (mine is orange!) but that green doesn't work I don't think.

NiceGerbil · 09/11/2020 01:17

Sorry didn't understand post.

Where are the windows? Looks quite dark.

MiniCooperLover · 09/11/2020 07:08

1st picture is what I'm debating. Second picture is sons old room at the moment. It's a forest green (or sludgy as someone put it .....) because we'd had a tree and forest sticker on it before we moved him to another room. Window is to the left of the room, I took the picture at night. Because the room does get sunny I can't put the desk closer to the window or I won't be able to see my screens. Thanks

This is where the window is. I'll have a lighter coloured and larger desk when finished

Ok I went Farrow & Ball muzzle in the end. It looks grey or green depending on the time of day 👍

I like that colour, however your shortcuts on your desktop are driving me insane 😂

Isolatedizzy · 14/11/2020 18:40

That looks great!

Would you be open to some ergonomic advice?
By having your screens against the wall, when you look up from them - which you do far more than you realise, you are not getting much of a focus change with your eyes.
By re-jigging the room so you are looking into the room, or preferably, through the window you will find it a more relaxing experience.

CountFosco · 14/11/2020 19:06

Nice colour.

Agree about moving the desk, use the room and stick the desk in the middle so when you look up you can see out the window.

Also, give yourself a chaise longue or sofa to chill out in when you don't need to be at the desk.

MiniCooperLover · 14/11/2020 22:16

I agree the desk would be better positioned that way, absolutely. I didn't think that would work as the window has the only radiator under it plus as we are South West facing the sun comes streaming in after midday and it would be in my eyes, so it wouldn't work really plus I need to be close to the power points which are on the wall under where the desk is now. I've also got a big chest of drawers in the room for hugely needed clothes storage on the other wall. I'm going to put up some pictures I love on the wall I face so I have things to look at every now and then.

Extension lead and a roller blind you can pull partially down to keep the sun out off your eyes. No problem with the radiator, keep your under desk area nice and warm!

I took the advice and moved things around a bit, what do you think? Plenty of floor space for the dog now too 🐶

Looks much better 😊

rslsys · 22/11/2020 08:02

Fabulous!

user113215532352 · 22/11/2020 08:07

That looks so much better! How you have it now looks like somewhere I'd want to work and would feel relaxed; how you had it in the beginning made me feel sad and stressed just looking at it!

CountFosco · 22/11/2020 08:35

Looks great and how lovely to be able to watch the tree change as the seasons go by.
