We are choosing Amtico for the hall, playroom and possibly sitting room, and toying with colours. We will probably choose parquet, and dont know whether to go pretty dark like his walnut type look called oiled timber or this deep oak.

Rooms are fairly large. Playroom has white painted furniture; hall and sitting room have dark wood furniture.

Opinions welcome!

I think the darker of those 2 is nicer nd would work well with the furniture ik rooms (with a rug in the sitting room to add texture so the furnituredoesn't blend into the floor). However the darker the floor, the more dust it shows and it also shows up scratches more too though that probably depends on the quality of the finish.

I prefer the oak.
However if they are big rooms the overall look will be slightly lighter over a large expanse.

I far prefer the oak. I think the other would look too dark with the dark furniture. The oak is a cosier, warmer colour too.

Thanks. I hadn’t realised about it having that impact over a large expanse. I am leaning toward to dark oak.

If you go very dark it is a bugger for showing up every bit of dust, debris etc.

WellTidy · 30/10/2020 14:22

It’s a balance isn’t it. I love the darker one but I am practical over everything else and I don’t want it to show up every speck of dust. I think the darker one looks better quality, for some reason, even though they are both made exactly the same, same durability etc.

Love the oiled timber one, but then I have very similar through my downstairs (except carpeted lounge).

I think the second one reads very red/orange. I think this will be enhanced over a large area. It will affect what interior colours look good on your walls etc. I'd go for the first one.

We have walnut which is also dark and I agree with others that it shows dust

I’m in such a quandary.

In the sitting room, we have dark wood furniture and dark sofas. Colour in the cushions and curtains, and a light neutral massive rug under the (dark wood) coffee tables. Stone colour painted walls, white gloss skirtings and door. South facing, large bay window. I am worried that the oiled timber amtico will be too dark against all that.

In the playroom, despite it being north facing, it is quite bright as massive windows and doors, neutral sofas, big punted fireplace. We would have a rug, but I’m sure that the room could absorb a darker colour floor, well, any colour really.

Hall is large and light.

We like the herringbone pattern, which means that it is between the oiled timber and the carved oak.

tone your floor to the furniture if youre keeping the furniture. So go with the first one

WellTidy · 30/10/2020 21:35

I like the dark too. I like them both, hence my difficulty!

We have dark wood like that all through our downstairs (except kitchen). We didn't choose it but its completely lovely and looks fab. I don't think it shows up dust anymore than anywhere else in the house.

WellTidy · 02/11/2020 13:00

I'm going with the carved oak. Board effect in the hall and playroom (both rooms go in the same direction), parquet in the sitting room (as it goes in the opposite direction). Board layout on the landing.

Fingers crossed I've made the right decision.

We have dark wood, medium oak and light stone. I would say it's not just how dark but how shiny. Shiny and smooth shows more dirt than dark and slightly uneven. The light stone shows the dirt the most.

WellTidy · 07/11/2020 13:40

This is reassuring! We’ve chosen the one with more texture as we thought it looked more realistic, but it’s good to know that a smoother one would have shown the dirt more. It’s the dust that I’m concerned about. I wonder whether I will be hoovering it every day because I will be able to see the dust, whereas I only vacuum the carpet that we have once to twice a week.

You do see dust more on a wood floor than carpet, as well as hair. Stuff like mud and leaves show up more on carpet.

I clean them all the same amount. But we don't have a dog and I'm not house proud. Not do we have asthma issues with dust.

WellTidy · 07/11/2020 16:11

Thank you, no dogs or allergies to dust here either. And I’m not houseproud by any stretch of the imagination! My mother, in the other hand ...
