Hi all

We have a kitchen with cream units and wooden tops, I like the country shabby chic look. One big window at end of kitchen. The other end is dining area that we never use because its more dingy and unfinished, my questions are: shall I paint the wall welsh dresser cream and all the chairs cream to match table legs or just half the chairs? Or leave the welsh unit as it is..? Aside from that as there is no window at that end any ideas how to open up the space more? I thought about a mirror but if i put it on right hand side wall it wont refleft anything pretty off it just the other wall, i am so stuck... I cant get rid of welsh unit.I have no other storage for tea pots etc

Thank you! X

Would you be able to share photos of the space?

Painting dark wood cream in a dark end of the kitchen sounds in principle like a good idea.

Not sure if this will work but here's link to the pic

I wouldn't say it looks particularly dark! But could you move the teacup unit to one of the side walls and then put a mirror at the end? I think that would then reflect the rest of the kitchen/window, if I understood your op

Unit on the right hand wall, mirror on the middle wall, white furniture, corner standing lamp. Should do it !

LivingoffCoffee · 26/10/2020 18:49

Yes a light too! Either a corner floor lamp or could you get one hung over the table?

EmpressoftheMundane · 26/10/2020 22:32

I think it looks pretty good as is. I like the idea of a pendant light over the table.

I painted a dark wood fire surround in a dingy room and it made a huge difference. I used Zinsser BIN primer as the wood was varnished then Rustoleum satin finish furniture paint and used a small gloss roller for the flat areas.

Also make all you teacups face the same direction Grin

Re painting completely agree with wow you need Zinsser BIN primer, it is water based so no harsh chemical smell. It will cover varnished surfaces and dries fast. We got ours recently from Screwfix.
