Best neutral colour carpet for a hall stairs and landing please

We are in the process of redecorating our Edwardian house’s hall stairs and landing. I am hoping to put wood/wood engineered floor in the hall, but may go with carpet if we decide that we are going to sell. We are definitely having new carpet (not a runner) for the stairs and landing. We need to make decisions fast!

We inherited a cream carpet in the hall stairs and landing when we moved in ten years ago. I put a massive rug down but the e carpet has taken an absolute battering and is dreadfully stained. It is really shocking to see how clean the carpet is under the rug as a comparison.

As a result, I am going to avoid cream for the carpet, but I do need a neutral. The woodwork is white, and the walls are valspar anything goes which is a rich cream.

I don’t want anything too pale. I am thinking something biscuity, but the estate agent says to go griege if we want to sell, as that is what buyers are looking for. I don’t think greige will go with a rich cream though.

Any recommendations for a not at all light, very hard wearing neutral carpet please?

Carpet I'd hard at the moment because everyone apparently wants cream/beige so that's what's on offer. We are about to replace our hallway and stairs carpet and it's taken ages of research and a lot of magazine reading to find a carpet we like and that will take on our 2 dogs and grubby DH! Despite the carpet man saying we wouldn't find it we've gone for a rust colour which we think will cope. Last house we had dark brown but with a fleck. I've had cream before and replaced it within 6 months, it's dreadful to keep nice if you have any humans or animals living with you! This is what we are having, it probably isn't to your taste but persevere!

So we have that rust colour carpet in our playroom, which is another area that takes a battering in our house as you can come into it from the garden. There are also drinks and snacks in there frequently. We’ve had it down for ten years and it has been superb. I think it’s a good choice for you.

We are toying with selling, so I wouldn’t be able to put it down in a hall stairs and landing as I need something which has more universal appeal in that area. But as you’re buying solely what suits you and your family. I thrink you’ve made a good choice actually.

We have limestone flooring on the ground floor hall and all the wood/doors are oiled oak so it will go very well with it so I'm absolutely confident about it! FWIW we did the dark brown in our old house in order to sell and the 3 viewings we had before we sold it all loved the fact it was a sensible not cream colour! We had wooden hallway floor there ( all our flooring is chosen with dogs in mind...)

What about green? We looked at Cormar Natural Berber Elite 'Green Tea' first which is a kind of heather green not too dark at all

Watching with interest as we are in quite a similar position!

I was shocked when we went to the carpet shop. It boasted 'over 200 carpet samples' fantastic, except 199 of them are grey Confused

@ParadeOfRemotes so true. It's all people are buying said the man. Well if it's all you sell, no wonder! I went through dozens of magazines and Pinterest pins to find a rust

Oh and then sent photo to carpet man and he begrudgingly got me a sample. Don't they want my money?

I love that Green Tea carpet. I think a mix of colours (I do t elk now the correct lingo for that) is what we need. We are in the middle of painting the hall stairs and landing a rich cream, and I wonder whether that particular mix is a bit too stone-y though. The paint really is a rich cream on the walls. But that kind of mix would be perfect for us.
