hi all,
we have a lovely 1910 3 bed semi, it has a lovely stained glass window in the front door, and black and white encaustic tiles on the floor.
It has picture rails and dado rails but no panelling.
I want something that is in keeping with the age of the house but not too grandiose.
The window glass looks like this and the floor tiles like this.
I thought that this wallpaper might look nice going up the stairs (above the dado rail) as it has the orange and turquoise of the stained glass, but is not too OTT. I'm just not sue what colour to paint the woodwork and under the dado and the banisters. I don't think I'm ready to use any of the primary colours from the front door, but them I'm not completely sold on the idea of using anything too dark. Would white just be boring? We're pretty 'safe' decorators - everything is white at the moment, but I feel like such a dramatic floor needs something.
The furnishings in the rest of the house are oranges and eau de nil green with some teal thrown in.
What do you think?

(I watched George Clarkson do up a 1930's semi last night and he made it into a Hollywood pastiche - I really don't want that!)
I'll post the pics in the next message as can never get it to work from the laptop.

Oh and Lake Red looks like a fabulous colour for a front door! I just painted mine in F&B Rangwali, but almost changed my mind when I came across Lake Red 😍

Thank you @Crazzzycat!
I would much rather a team of decorating professionals came round and did all the painting, but needs must!
I love a red front door :)

I wouldn't paint the inside of the door white - paint it one of the colours you're using on the walls, the lighter one if you're nervous of too much colour. Will make the interior of the hall look much more pulled together.

Thanks @Zinnia, I feel very out of my depth, not sure if I'm going OTT with two colours and a wallpaper.

I think it sounds lovely, and in the worst case scenario if you really don't like it you can always paint over one of the colours.

Also bear in mind that the hall isn't somewhere you hang out, you can afford to take a few more risks with the decor because you're only ever passing through.
