Round picture windows

I'm considering having one of these in an attic conversion - places at the front of the elevation (gable wall at face of house).

This attic room will be DD's bedroom and will also have velux windows in the roof - so will have plenty of light.

My issue is curtains. I'd like to have the window unobstructed by shutters or blinds but it will need some sort of covering during the night.

What are my options? I'm not getting very far on google.

Does it need to be covered? No-one will be able to see in. I can't see how you could have a curtain or blind that wouldn't detract from it being round. How about putting stained glass in to obscure it a bit but would keep it as a feature.

Thanks for replying @CountFosco.

I'd like to leave it totally uncovered during the day - light and the view - no one will be overlooking us to see in, but I'd like a covering at night so that my very light sleeping 12 year old won't get woken in the mornings by the light.

I don't like the circular curtain rails I see on Pinterest! I don't like the curtains above nor the shutters neither! I was hoping for some sort of neutral fabric covered frame that I could clip on and off completely (and store it in a cupboard or something during the day!). I can't seem to find anything of the sort though.

In that case do you need a frame? You could put some small unobtrusive hooks round the window frame and just sew a circular piece of fabric with button holes round the edge and hook it up each evening.

@CountFosco that's an idea.
I could get a sturdy, neutral canvas type material.

Great thought - thank you'

We have a window exactly like this, and we ended up getting a porthole bung. They are fabric covered foam 'plugs', originally made for porthole windows on boats. They work brilliantly, they give a complete blackout but you don't have to worry about curtains obstructing the view. They're only about an inch wide so they stash neatly under the bed when not in use as well. We ended up buying via a company that makes them fairly inexpensively on Ebay, but a few different companies make them, and I'd imagine if you were nifty with a sewing machine (I am not!) they'd be fairly easy to make; in fact I found some instructions buried somewhere on the internet during my research. HTH!

Look up dormer curtain rod - a curtain hangs off a moveable rod, in the day you swing the rod and curtain away from the window, at night swing it back.

@minipie thanks. I'm hoping to have an exposed brick as a feature wall so I really don't want anything by the window itself. Thanks though.
