Hey all. I'm redecorating my living room and buying new sofas. I have to keep the flooring and I'm not a traditionalist when it comes to decorating.... I like it a bit different, a bit hybrid and unusual. I know my taste is not to everybodies but that is the beauty of people.

The sofa

So I've got the floor already laid last year and it's amazing for hiding scuffs, dog foot prints etc. I have ordered two 4 seater sofas in navy and the wall paper attached. I am looking to paper the two end walls and paint the window walls so need a colour for that. Also I currently have roller blinds on the 4 windows and can either remake the ones I have with new fabric or buy curtains.

I have 4 dogs and two very rambunctious nephews and a grandchild on the way. We are not the sure of people that take our shoes off at the door. I will need throw blankets to cover the sofas and cushions too. Furniture wise I have 4 white billy book cases from ikea and over is a corner unit. Happy to get new coffee table and side tables but they need to fit in. I need two new benches for the dining table as my rotty has eaten mine. 5ft.

I would really appreciate any help. In great with a sewing machine too.

I think that floor would go with almost any furnishings, provided they are covered in dust sheets. I'd get a couple of paintings with eyes that follow you around the room and some tall candelabras with spiderwebs all over them to really set it off.

A nice big, solid wood, coffee table shaped like a very long flattened hexagon and you are done.

Hahaha! As I said, not everybody likes my sort of style but that's fine. The floor is serving a purpose by intentionally looking shit. It covers the million scratches from the rescues I look after.

And I do happen to have some rather creepy " all year round " ornaments.

I actually really like it. We have similar tarnished silver click LVT in our utility and bathrooms.

Our lounge/diner/kitchen is all rusted iron looking karndean, so similar-ish issues matching with furniture.

We've gone with white walls, black detailing (picture frames, beams, switches and sockets) and retro furniture- 50s bar stools and dining chairs, leather chesterfield settees and queen Ann chair.

The simplicity of the colour scheme lets us get away with eclectic everything else- it looks much better than it sounds. Everything apart from the walls and details is reds, oranges and browns. Nothing matches, but it all fits well enough that most people comment when they first see it.

If I had that floor I'd probably do similar but with blues, silvers and greys. Gunmetal radiators would look fab with that floor.

I really like the sound of that too!
I think with the navy sofa and that wallpaper I'd be tempted to keep the other walls white and then add colour with your throws & cushions!

I like that wallpaper alot BTW, but I'd see how one wall goes first- two might be a bit busy. Hard to tell what paint would work without seeing them next to it and trying a few out- maybe a very pale duckegg blue?

Love the colour of that settee lizzie.

I was thinking about the wash paper being too busy but the room is 8m long. One wall is half full of book cases and the other is an alcove so technically only 1/3 of the whole wall. Room gets plenty of light from the three south facing windows. An turn between a flat Matt blue or a pale pink for the long walls. Either way, the throws will be the opposite of the walls. Would love wooden blinds but it's the dust and wiping down that worries me. So may get fabric and redo the blinds?

So my living room is almost done! It's been a total pain in the arse as when removing the old paper , some (lotsof) plaster came off.

Anyway paint wise I went BOLD. I love bright colours. My sofas are nice blue, walls green, peacock and green feature cushions and blinds will be the same pink as the back ground wall paper. Only the two small end walls were done in the wall paper. I couldn't get curtains as we have a massive metal beam above the three windows and can't attach curtain poles or screw wood in so had to stick with blinds.

Also I bought white architrave and my husband framed the windows to hide the bad plaster and wonky lines ( and I know he put the architrave on the wrong way !). It's a council house so nothing is straight and it means we are limited to what we can do. I've got all my books out and sorted into colour order on the shelves and it looks pretty awesome.

How are the sofas? I'm tempted to get some after being quoted £1000 to recover mine - well loose covers. I may start a new thread about cheaper ways to recover but anyway- they look ace. Are they comfy?
