Which white/off white paint for kitchen?

I am really struggling to find a white paint for our kitchen. It is really modern, black aluminium windows, grey tiled floor and a mix of charcoal and dark wood units and brass accessories.

The problem is part of it is open to our hall which is painted in dulux jasmine white which is slighly creamy and the hall has a much more traditional feel.

Does anyone have suggestions for a paint which will both work with the jasmine white but also suit a more contemporary style? Repainting the hall is not an option.

Hi, I love the sound of your kitchen. We are vaguely planning something similar for when we get ours done but the question of paint colour with these elements (charcoal, wood, brass) has been stumping me! So I'm just going to follow your thread. Would you post a picture of your kitchen?

Thanks floorplanner. It is very much work in progress at the moment although we should get our worktops today. Will look at posting pics when it is further along.

If anyone has any idea on colours though I would be interested, I have been wasting so much money on testers in various shades of white and still can't find the right one.

We've gone for Dulux Timeless in our kitchen, which is quite a contemporary style (handleless dark navy & white units, grey accents around the room)

Second Dulux Timeless. I have it in lot of rooms now, it looks great in my bathroom with 2 dark navy walls.
It has a warmth to it but no yellow tones which I love.

Thanks both. Any chance of posting a photo of the timeless. Do you know if it is less yellow than jasmine white?

I am wondering about Dulux white cotton but can't tell from the tester if it is much different from brilliant white.

Here is the kitchen so far. It is pretty clinical looking at the moment but I will be warming it up with a gold splashback on the sink wall (far wall, tap not yet installed) and brass pendants and lots of herb planters on the island. The walls are a combination of bare plaster and brilliant white at the moment.

Oh, it looks really great so far. It will be fabulous when all done Smile

We also have Timeless.
Ours runs throughout the hall, kitchen and extension. Our woodwork in the hall is very similar in colour to your cupboards and the colours look great together.

I would say Timeless is a lot more yellow than Jasmine White! I'm not sure you will find an off-white that is less yellow than Jasmine. We have White Cotton in the hall and stairwell and then Jasmine in the rooms. I think they work well together. The white cotton is very white but less bright than brilliant white, if that makes sense!

Also, it can make a big difference what light you have on it. Obviously any natural light, or lack of, but also whether you choose warm white or cool white bulbs

Went through picking the right white for our kitchen and having done so many testers we settled on a F&B ‘All white’, it doesn’t seem to have a hint of any other colour which other whites did.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 10/10/2020 19:08

Lovely kitchen. Funnily enough, I think the plaster colour at the far end of your picture works well. Have you considered a park pink eg Setting Plaster? Also pink and yellow tones work ok together.

Gloomandglow · 10/10/2020 19:18

Another vote for All white by farrow and ball. I had it mixed in Tikkurilla paint which is more durable and cheaper. They have a license for matching f&b so their matches are spot on.

All white has no pigment in it other than white.

I've used White cotton in other rooms of the house and it's my favourite of the dulux whites. It has a chalky feel and is not at all similar to brilliant white.

Sundaysiesta · 10/10/2020 19:27

Our kitchen is in similar colours to yours and we used Farrow and Ball School House White. Creamy, traditional but no yellow tones at all. Love it!

weepingwillow22 · 10/10/2020 21:03

Thanks all. What are people using on the ceiling? The same paint as the walls or a trade white or brilliant white? If the latter does it make the walls look grubby.

I will look into f&b all white and compare to the white cotton. Gloomandglow where do you get it mixed? I have seen places that mix Johnsons paint for f&b but not heard of Tikkurilla.

Mumisnotmyonlyname funnily enough I thought the same about the plaster and I really like it. I think having a natural pinky tone offsets some of the harshness of the kitchen. I was wondering about using Fired Earth carragheen paint on one of the walls to inject some warmth.

I also really liked my tester of Little Greene loft white which was lovely to apply although did not look much different to the brilliant white.

It is all very confusing. The light is also very different at different times of the year as it is a south facing room but shaded by trees in the summer, less so in the winter.

Painted both ceiling and walls with F&B All white.

Timeless can read yellow in some lights (or to some people).
Cotton White is a soft white, like a very light neutral oatmeal colour.

Bluesheep8 · 18/10/2020 07:46

How about F and B Pointing? That's a lovely creamy white
