Painting silicone?

Hi. We've recently had a kitchen fitted and between the corner cupboard and joining wall, the fitter has run a line of- I assume silicone- sealant. Clear instead of white. We're painting the walls cream to match the cupboards but obviously it's not sticking to the sealant and it's fresh plaster underneath, we're left with a line of plaster colour between the paint and the cupboard! Is there any way I can get the paint to take to the sealant?

I've a feeling I'm going to have to run a blade down it and remove.

There isn’t really any way to get it to stick. Even if you could, the expansion/contraction in the winter and summer might mean it cracks and peels over time. Fitter was daft to silicone over unpainted plaster tbh, he should have come back after painting or told you to ask decorators to caulk it.

Tbh the fitters were jokers from start to finish. Morons even placed a cupboard over our washing machine plug (while the machine was out of the room) and never left enough space to slide the plug in after. We had to cut into the back of the cupboard ourselves once they'd gone.

Moral of the story, do not use Wren fitters, use your own.

@Pinkstars2501

It could be worth trying Zinsser which is an incredible primer. I haven't used it for silicone but here is the data sheet which includes painting glass! It is expensive but if you have other areas that need an undercoat primer for previously painted woodwork etc then it is worth the investment.

I had the same problem. I used oil based paint to paint over it (had to do 2 coats) then normal paint and it’s worked.

Had the same problem with my wardrobes. Zinsser primer didn't work.

I covered all the silicon with a thin layer of caulk using my finger and then painted over that (without primer). The caulk was £2.99 or so.

Thankyou

You could try a nail varnish of the correct colour. This might adhere.
