What window treatment for this 1930s bay window?

Hi all. Moved into a 1930s doer upper a year or so ago. We are holding off on most major redecoration until our downstairs renovation is done (which is on hold till we have the funds) but I am nevertheless musing on what to do with this window. This part will not really be affected by the renovation other than that there will be a wall reinstated behind the sofa in the foreground of the picture separating it from the kitchen/diner to-be. The previous owner had rather theatrical tastes as these gold and blue striped roman blinds show (we have already removed the accompanying blue and red full length curtains which went with them). I have done a few running repairs on them but they are pretty shabby now and really not to my taste. What would you do? Blinds? Curtains? I quite like long curtains but they would block the radiator so I guess that's out. Decor-wise we're not going to go full on 1930s theme home but I am hoping to be at least reasonably sympathetic to the age of the house with a few nods to the 1930s era through pattern, light fittings etc. Any inspiration gladly received!

Just to pre-empt any comments, the speakers are DH's department and whilst not wild about them, I don't mind them and they will be staying. Also the massive fireplace will be going, to be replaced with something simpler as will the light.

Forgot to say, at some point I hope to replace the current radiator with a nicer looking vintage style one but that is one for the long term list.

I think if your DH's speakers are going to stay there & you don't want to cover the radiator , then either new roman blinds in a better fabric or plantation shutters. The only thing about the shutters if you would have to have them open ( i.e. with the hinges - not just sloped for light) if you want to open the windows. If don't need them for privacy, which it doesn't look like you do. I would put new roman blinds in & unless the middle window is too wide I would have one across that span instead of two. They do look smart with a border round the edges too. If it were me I would have them interlined as well - the ones in the photos look a bit flimsy.

It looks like a lovely room though @30shousecat - all the best to you

Thanks Basilisk, I think roman blinds probably are the way forward. The ones we have actually are lined but I think they were put up in about 1980 so they are pretty worn now. I can't quite picture what you mean by a border on the blinds. I'm not massively wedded to the position of the speakers, I just mentioned them as when I posted a pic before somewhere people focused on them rather than what I was asking about. (Can't honestly remember why or where I posted it....hope it wasn't a dupe of this thread Blush)

So housecat - forget the fabric - this is what I mean by the border. www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-shawford-panel-blackout-roman-blind/grey/p3473322

I've had a patterned fabric with a plain border in a previous house , DS's room has a plain fabric with a very wide striped braid around and I also have ( in front of me as I type ) a plain blind with plain border. All have them have looked nice and I think finish the blinds off really smartly , especially in a sitting room. When I say interlined , I mean with an extra slightly thicker padding lining between the front fabric and the lining you see at the back

The speaker comment was slightly tongue in cheek Grin
