How much for a new bathroom?

Hi all - we are planning to change our bathroom layout, including moving a stud wall, changing location of the bath, adding in a walk in shower, plastering the walls, new floor, and new lighting. The first company has quoted (to include) everything £7200 - the products chosen are lovely and ‘mid range’. The floor isn’t Karndean, but a cheaper alternative. I was expecting it all to be around £5000 - DH thinks the price quoted is ‘fine’ - I have no idea but seems very high. Obviously getting another quote, but just wondered what people thought. The bathroom is not massive - just a typical 1930s semi detached house sized one - maybe a little larger.

I think that’s quite a bit. A good quality suite should only cost £1000-£1500
Mine was £2k suite and fitting including all new plumbing as the bathroom was previously in a different room. The house had been gutted so they had a clear path
Tiling was £250, flooring Lino £150 and plastering £500. The whole house was rewired so can’t give a cost for that. I also moved a wall and had new joinery but again most of the house had new joinery.

I think that’s fine for all in. My bathroom cost £4K for fittings - lights were £500, and about the same again for labour. Electrics I can’t remember £600ish. If you buy cheap fittings like thin shower cubicles they will annoy you. Same with taps. Tiles and tiling can be expensive, especially if you choose small ones which are expensive to fit.

Forgot to say the first quote I had was £16k - about 10 years ago! Another one was £11k with cheaper fittings. Get a breakdown for labour and fittings.

That seems pretty good to me. I was £3,500 last year to replace existing bath, basin, toilet, add shower and screen, partial tiling. Didn’t include flooring or lighting and no change to layout.

Sounds okay to me - I paid about 7K for a tiny bathroom last year, included taking tiles off all walls and floor, retiling, wood tongue and groove round wall and bath, splash back plus suite and shower.

That seems on the cheap side to me. My brother has a bathroom company and barely does a job under 8k.

Seems cheap to me too! I paid £10k for a full Reno including a stud wall a couple of years ago. In London.

Thanks all, that’s really helpful. Second quote was similar, although have a sale on so that’s knocked some more off. Most likely going with the first quote as they instilled more confidence and showed more of an interest in what was important to us. Prepare for posts about the next step -colour schemes! Thanks again!
