Paint colour for kitchen

We have a north facing kitchen, it's a reasonable size with a reasonable sized window, but it's fairly dark. We have cream kitchen units and cream metro tiles (which need to stay). Currently the walls are 'Timeless' but it looks a bit grey and grubby, possibly due to the northern light. I'm thinking of painting the end wall a deep navy blue, but am stuck on what contrasting colour to do the other walls. Any inspiration gladly received!

Currently doing our north facing kitchen in F&B (but the Valspar knock-off -off version) Skimming Stone, which is a warm grey with Wimborne White woodwork. It looks lovely and has totally transformed the feel of an otherwise chilly room.

I must add, that I absolutely rate Valspar paint!

Ah, thank you. I love skimming stone, actually have started to paint a bit with a Johnstone's colour match! I wasn't sure it went particularly well with the cream cupboards, but maybe I'll paint a bit more and see.
Yours looks lovely @hawleybits

For north facing rooms, warmer colours usually work better than off-whites or cool colours.

For my kitchen, I used F&B pink ground, which ended up working really well with my cream units. The previous wall colour made the units look really grubby, but next to pink ground, they look lovely and clean. It’s honestly made such a difference to the “feel” of the room, I can’t recommend it enough, even though I’m not usually much of a pink person at all!

I agree with this. Usually, blue is a cold colour. Skimming stone and pink ground are warmer, or you could try a yellow based colour.

hawleybits your pic looks fantastic. I have a copy of Skimming Stone in my lounge and on kitchen cabinets and I love it. Lounge still looks great 4 years on. Will post a pic when it gets light.

I have a yellow north facing kitchen. It's dulux but I forget the name. Looks lovely.

Thanks all! I like the idea of the pink, but not sure..... yellow wouldn't work as the cupboards are cream. I think I'll carry on with the skimming stone I already have and take it from there!

Go dark! We just did ours a very dark purple black, even the woodwork and coving the same colour, and it’s made the room seem absolutely huge. We’ve lost all the edges, the ceilings feel a foot higher

SusieSusieSoo · 03/09/2020 15:33

Can't help with the colour but beware of Valspar paint. My decorator also rated it. 3 yrs on I'm about to have the plaster boards ripped out and replaced as it's the only way to get rid of the terrible smell that's t

Oops posted too soon!

Terrible smell that's produced - one bedroom and one bathroom affected 🤦‍♀️

Thanks for the tip about Valspar, I'd heard that before but hoped it might have been sorted by now. I think I'll keep clear of it.....

Oooh do u have a pic? Looking for inspiration for kitchen paint colour. Just saw a house for sale thats kitchen is painted dark purple. It's beautiful but the kitchen units are white and ours aren't so not sure it would work...

I have pink ground in my north facing bathroom, and I love it so much I want to paint half the house with it! It's not very pink, but so warm and friendly. I'm really not a pink person, it was my DH who chose it.
