Bedroom layout help (with pictures).

I can't seem to get our bedroom layout right!
While everything fits, It just feels very boxy and lacking "flow".

The first picture is the layout (the bottom right hand doors is a built in wardrobe). And the second picture was the current layout we have. Room dimensions are correct but furniture and fixtures I've drawn as an approximate.

We're currently getting ready for a renovation/redecorating so it's time to overhaul the bedroom and get the flow right.

We've got rid of the chest of drawers as it didn't fit aesthetically (top left hand corner) but will need to get something else for the extra storage and the item on the top right hand corner is a dressing table.

Happy to in furniture that would make the room better.

Would anyone have any inspiration or ideas? I've trawled through Pinterest and Google and can't find anything that could work!

Sorry to spam!
My current thinking is this, where it would be two low chest of drawers and a dressing table in the middle of the two.

Could it work? 🙈

Can't comment to much, as I am crap at all things layout, design and decoration (Mr AnythingConsidered is the master of all that in our house), but he used this picture as inspiration for a design we are having completed pre-Xmas...

I love that design @AnythingConsidered. It's lovely.

Sorry @december2020 that was my only Input, I'm rubbish at interior design and always looking for inspiration myself, but good luck

I love it @AnythingConsidered ! That's sort of what I was thinking but chest of drawers instead of the cupboards as the window is quite wide and I didn't want to block it.

@tigger001 it an eternal dilemma isn't it! I'm trying to sort the bedrooms out and then it's on to the landing and staircase 🙈

Tbh, I'd rather have the bed facing the window and get rid of the wardrobes but that may not be possible?

Babs709 · 30/08/2020 15:53

I don’t hate a bed in front of a window, could that work?

december2020 · 31/08/2020 08:07

@SoloMummy I know what you mean!
We don't have the option of breaking the wall down as there is built in wardrobe for the other bedroom and then the room for the hot water cylinder and all the pipes running in the same "wall space". We could just block off the built in wardrobe but would then need to find new storage space. Whoever designed this room layout with doors, window and built in stuff clearly didn't think much about impales on floor layouts 😬

@Babs709 I was thinking that too as an option! But would need to get a new bed frame as the headboard would stick above the window sill/window at the moment.

My current thought is put drawers and a dressing table along the window wall (below the sill) and then maybe instead of curtains get some nice blinds.
Would it be a total faux pas to have blinds instead of floor length curtains in the bedroom? (I'm not too keen on the half length curtains).

Also thank you everyone! It's really helpful!

I think blinds would be fine. I have an (irrational) issue with window coverings generally, so blinds would be ok.
I think the lining up of all the furniture under the window would need some serious consideration. It would possibly look a little hotel like, a row of furniture and I'm not sure what type would lend itself to such a long run.
I prefer the symmetry of 2 bedside tables.
What do you need in terms of additional furniture? Could your bedside tables be matching drawer units instead, assuming the height worked?

Ikeameatballs · 31/08/2020 08:25

Could you get the bedroom door re hung so that it opens to the right rather than to the left as you enter the room?

Then I would move the bed to the opposite wall that it is on now.

I think that would help with the flow.

bookgirl1982 · 31/08/2020 08:26

I would try and fit your bed on the wall with the door.
This will help with flow as you will walk straight into the room and round the end of the bed rather than doubling back on yourself.

Agapantson · 31/08/2020 11:46

Agree, bed on other wall. You then have (depending on the chunkiness of your bed frame) about 4 foot at the end of your bed. Could you not put drawers along that wall rather than at the window? If you find narrowish ones you still have enough space to walk past the end of the bed. Also, could you put sliding doors on the built on cupboard? Would allow the corner to be used for a nice chair or something?

MikeUniformMike · 01/09/2020 19:59

I like a bed to be the main thing you see when you open the door.
Don't put the bed in front of the window - you'll not sleep as well.

I'd put drawers under the window and use most or all of the width of the wall.

Roman blinds would probably work best.
