Which kitchen window covering?

If the window could be seen from a distant, but neighbouring bedroom, and also if anyone looks over the rather low fence, what covering would you have? Just a lacey thing, proper curtains, a venetian blind or something else?

Depends which room the window is on?

vagoftheday · 20/08/2020 21:57

Um, the kitchen maybe! 😄

farmertom · 20/08/2020 21:58

If it's a loo or bathroom then I'd have something that blocks it completely, Lacey thing or frosted glass. If it's your bedroom, probably curtains and a blind. If living room just curtains I think. Although also how close is the neighbours house and which of their rooms is the window?

farmertom · 20/08/2020 21:59

Oh for gods sake!!!! Read the bloody title why don't I 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ how embarrassing! Going to blame sleep deprivation but also can't stop laughing now

How big is the window? What's the style of the kitchen? We don't have anything although our neighbour can see in the kitchen. I always forget when I'm running in to get something out of the dryer in my bra. 😄

I prefer blinds personally, Venetian are easier to clean in a kitchen I think.

I would second blonds which is what we have in ours. Although due to above I wouldn't be surprised if you disregard any opinion of mine 🤣🤣

@vagoftheday now I've just properly read your user name and laughing again. Think I've gone loopy.

Mamette · 20/08/2020 22:01

Venetian because then you can close them fully in the evening and still have privacy when the lights are on.

We have a translucent white blind in our kitchen and it gives no privacy at night so I’m swapping it for a Venetian one soon.

Bluntness100 · 20/08/2020 22:02

Don’t do the Lacey thing, by which I assume you mean nets. Curtains are also a bit dated in a kitchen

As such I’d go for a blind in the kitchen.

A friend of mine has these, they are amazing, they basically are voile when fully open, the opaque blinds when closed, but always give privacy.

I was about to start a thread on Roman blinds for my kitchen when it wiped me off the thread. I have a glass door and a small window without anything but I would quite like something for winter. Interested to read replies OP

I bought rabbitgoo from Amazon, it is very easy to apply, basically sticky back plastic to created a frosted glass effect. Works well, and doesn't block the light.
It's applied with water so it's also ready to remove.

I think I prefer brunettes!
minipie · 20/08/2020 22:16

I wouldn’t have anything, but then we have a full wall of glass and all our neighbours can see in, most houses near us have the same 🤷‍♀️ hopefully we’ve all got better things to do than watch each other eat breakfast...

farmertom · 20/08/2020 22:26

@DialSquare - Jesus, I think I should just go to bed 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤣

VenusClapTrap · 21/08/2020 08:28

Whatever you choose, get something you can clean easily. When we bought our house one of the first things I did was remove the Roman blinds from the kitchen. They were sticky with grease. House was immaculate apart from that - fabric in kitchens seems to absorb grease and smoke from cooking and gets really manky quite quickly.

I’m with minipie and prefer nothing on the windows.

Bluntness100 · 21/08/2020 09:11

It really finishes the room though. I went several years with nothing and just had shutter blinds put in and the difference is huge, it looks so much better,

It definitely does.

Thanks for the ideas and thoughts. Yes, its for a kitchen window! Its a modern kitchen, so net might not suit. Definately want something easy to clean, but might initially see how it does bare.

We are in the process of renovating the kitchen and I will keep the windows bare for a while. We are not overlooked though. We had roman blinds previously which came with the house that blocked a good 1/3 of the light (as well as being a non hygienic option for a kitchen)

maybelaterdear · 21/08/2020 23:58

Plantation shutters would be lovely.

I have these Enjoy "zebra" roller blinds in our kitchen (window at front of house) and I'm really pleased with them. I have them in white in a modern minimal kitchen
During the day they are pulled up apart from maybe 15cm left down to soften the window.
In the evening I pull them down. You can alter the privacy by overlapping or staggering the stripes.
I love them and they are really reasonable price for a made to measure blind.

FollowingAmirage · 22/08/2020 12:52

I’ve seen lots of bamboo blinds in kitchens in pinterest...they look nice and on trend but not sure how practical they are? Don’t think they are easy to clean?
