How to get a really luxe bedding setup

Looking to invest in some linen bedding and wondering what extra bits you need to recreate the kind of luxe look of the attached.

Is it just three sets of pillows, a flat sheet under the duvet and a throw over the top? Should those extra bits be a different colour? Any colour or just white?

Judging from hotels, go for the highest count Egyptian cotton linen you can afford (i’m sure someone more knowledgeable will be along to say there’s something even better i’m not even aware of) - you can really feel the difference.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 14/08/2020 10:17

White if you have no pets or small children Smile

Otherwise make sure whichever main colour you go for works with all the bits Whilst having some different elements.

A valance or divan sheet if you want a 'skirt'

Is there a minimum thread count @RubaiyatOfAnyone? Sadly DH hates all-white because he wants to spill his coffee in peace. But I like sage green, lilac, natural linen colours.

@Amy365 that eiderdown looks lovely. Do you put it somewhere else for sleeping or is it like an extra blanket?

I love the style of the pic in your OP. I have linen bedding and like the relaxed vibe (and that it looks better creased so I don't need to bother with ironing).

H & M and Zara home are my go-to places for reasonably priced linen. Piglet in bed is just gorgeous.

I think piling high with pillows in complimenting colours (the colours you mentioned would be fab together), a throw (maybe a couple of them) over the end of the bed and a couple of cushions as well.

Blimey Amy, your spamming isn't very subtle.
Is truly struggling?

Thread count of 400 plus feels nicest.

I buy Egyptian cotton sateen as has a sheen to the fabric in minimum 600tc in white or ivory. Really easy to iron and the more it’s washed the better it feels. It’s not shiny satin stuff! Next have a really nice set with a coloured piping. I think they also have a couple of colours. I use normal housewife pillowcases plus Oxfords. Colour is personal choice. M&S also have various sets in different colours. Use cushions and a folded throw to increase luxury feel.

Buy linen and don't iron it judging by the picture Grin

I think the colour depends on your room. We have yellow pure linen from ikea which I like because it’s got ties instead of buttons. It fades nicely over the first few washes from a slightly mustardy shade I didn’t like to a pale washed yellow with the faintest bit of grey. We have that paired with a vintage merino blanket and a rough woven wool blanket, because I like the contrast of textures.

maybecapri · 15/08/2020 19:02

I am not into ironing bed linen so gently crumpled is ideal Grin

Hadn't thought of zara thanks @Gloomandglow

DH has been seduced by piglet in bed adverts so I might go for one of their bundles as a starting point.
