Plantation shutters - any tips?

We've got a company coming round to quote for a set of shutters for our bay living room window (3 windows). Is there anything I should be particularly looking out for or asking about wrt to the shutters or the fitting? I've seen versions which allow you to open the slats on the top and bottom sections differently which look handy - anything else?

For what it's worth, I've delayed doing this as I wasn't that keen on them (so for eg was looking at roman blinds etc). But they do seem perfect as the windows look out into a street and so the screening at the lower window level is really helpful. We've currently got slatted blinds but they are getting to the end of their natural life.

@MrsMiggins9100 they look very similar, however for larger windows they recommend wood as it’s lighter

thanks MammyLamb

Hi Lara
How did you find out about Shutterlab?
Did a friend recommend?
How long did it take your shutters to arrive?

Hi! They were recommended by my MIL who had hers done. They took about 9 weeks from the start of the process till the end (I think that is average time for most companies) but well worth the wait.

Has anyone had faux wood shutters? We've ordered some from Dunelm. They have a 10 year guarantee. Hoping they will be as good as other types.

@WobblyLondoner are you happy with yours? Send a pic if you can.

Thanks @curlyrebel, completely forgot to post. We love ours - they look great and the fitting was pretty flawless. The only thing I now regret with hindsight was not getting the half and half option whereby you can keep the bottom shut and the top open. The slats are separate (so you can open the top half more than the bottom) but we decided against having the tops and bottoms open independently. Otherwise I love them.

We got hardwood, medium sized slats and used a company called Clement Browne who I would wholeheartedly recommend: uk.trustpilot.com/review/clementbrowne.co.uk

They look really good @WobblyLondoner! It’s sometimes hard to know exactly what you want until you have them in front of you. Great to have hardwood too.

@curlyrebel Thanks. The main issue is simply that a lot of my plants moved into that room since we ordered them and they need light - so we have to have the middle ones open all day. Hindsight is a wonderful thing ...
