Cantilever/banana parasol - any good?

I'm looking to buy one of these for a seating area of my patio. My next door neighbour bought one and I heard her say to her husband when he came home yesterday that it had fallen over twice even though they have it weighted down.

I've since read that they are useless if there's a slight breeze and they swing about too. Reluctant to spend £100+ on one plus £60 for the base if they're rubbish.

They've got the for £40 to pre-order from Aldi today.

Don't know if they're any good though sorry.

Ooo thanks I'll look on Aldi.

We've got one as our table doesn't have a hole for a parasol. It's fine .... I refused to buy an expensive base and just bought four paving slabs!

Good idea. The bases are nearly as much as the parasol

Ours is a nightmare in even the slightest breeze, it lifts like a sail!
We've weighted it down with large rocks but I'm going to try the paving slab trick above.
They should really be sold with decent weights as they're not fit for purpose otherwise.

My sister has one, the base is massive

I have one from dunelm which has been really good. I bought two of the weights that you fill with water, but we also stood a bucket of sand on it and it seems to stay put.

I got one recently, plus expensive base, and I love it. Base keeps it steady. Only issue is it turns in the breeze so have just bought strap things to stop it doing that.

I was tempted by the Aldi one, but saw a load of reviews of it and others very similar on a post on hotukdeals, and the majority of the reviews were really awful, about the quality and general stability.
I’ve decided to save a bit and wait till next year to get a really decent one

I have a Jarder one, recent purchase. The base is massive, I have the water filled slab things on it, and it survived the recent high winds. I also bought a proper cover for it to protect it in wind.

The shade coverage is excellent, comparable to a gazebo (which I killed last year in heavy rain) and I wanted something movable to cast shade on large paddling pool, but not permanently so it heats up. So works perfectly for that.

It does spin around a bit in wind, but easy enough to move back. Constructing it and putting it up and down is easy enough.

They do swing in the breeze. But are very good at providing shade. Definitely either use slabs to weight the base or buy the proper base weights (amazon sell them) and fill with water or sand to stabilise them.
Be prepared to walk into the arm etc a lot.

Wait I'm sure this was posted already. Mine lasted a couple days when the pole snapped in a light breeze. Bought a canopy instead - much better.

Blackbear19 · 31/05/2020 22:28

I ended up plonking a planter on mine today. I don't think I'd buy another. Its also bulky to store in winter.

sohypnotic · 31/05/2020 22:28

Mmmmdanone ooh where did you get the straps from?
