DS aged 9 needs somewhere to put up books, in a room he shares with his younger brother. Due to the room layout, it will work best to have shelves attached to the wall, rather than a freestanding shelving unit. The area where the shelves are to be put up, is not an alcove.

I can’t seem to find shelves with upright bits at the end (to stop the books falling off), except shelves that are designed to be floating and will not take the weight of books. However, I have never had much success with bookends - they only ever seem to be designed for a few books, and just slide across the shelf once a certain number of books Is reached.

How does everyone else sort out this issue? Thanks.

I'd love to see these also! We need more storage for books but I don't feel we have any more floor space that can be used for bookcases, whereas we are in an Edwardian house with really high ceilings, so loads of wall space to play about with.

You buy freestanding ones!Make sure that they have a "long lip" that lies under the books, and the books hold them in place. My banks of shelves are over 12 feet long and they work fine for me - and I have a lot of 12 foot shelves!

We have these - quite expensive, but look great and very strong (currently holding masses of fat academic books with no issues).

@Moondust001, those look good - more heavy duty than the ones I have found, although it appears they are currently out of stock. Will look for similar though.

Thanks @unluckyducky, but I want to store multiple paper and hardback books with spines facing forwards.

@Peeeas - love those but don't think we can stretch to them price-wise.

Why doesn't anyone produce bog-standard wooden shelves with little upright bits on the end? Maybe I will have to attempt to fashion some!
