Are canisters for tea coffee and sugar old fashioned? Not sure whether to replace mine or what alternatives are out there.
What do you use?

I don't think they are old fashioned. I like these ones a lot

porkandbeans · 21/05/2020 11:42

I have star wars ones. We have different colours droids. I love them

Hoppinggreen · 21/05/2020 11:45

I’ve got some but they live in a cupboard so it doesn’t matter what they look like. I try and keep the worktops as empty as I can

Shosha1 · 21/05/2020 11:45

We have clear glass ones. But then I just have clear glass for everything.

DontBuyLangClegCashmere · 21/05/2020 11:48

I buy Douwe Egberts instant coffee (don't judge!)

A few years ago they did a run of Orla Kiely patterns on the glass jars, so I bought the three different patterns and I use those. They have a great seal on them too.

DontBuyLangClegCashmere · 21/05/2020 11:51

Bloody hell they're £110 on ebay! Shock

I think containers with their contents written on them are very dated, yes. I have my sugar in a ceramic sugar bowl, my tea in a couple of tins from tea shops (in the cupboard) and dh’s coffee just lives in the cupboard in its sachet.

I have thought about investing in some clear glass jars.

justanotherneighinparadise · 22/05/2020 08:15

I have Emma Bridgewater ones 👌

flirtygirl · 24/05/2020 14:01

I use the Douwe Egberts clear jars, also use them for cocoa, salt, teas, stevia etc and lots of them together look nice. Like a small pantry on display.

WinterAndRoughWeather · 25/05/2020 00:16

I have vintage Cornishware, probably doesn’t come more dated than that!

inwood · 25/05/2020 00:18

My coffee is in the fridge, I've banned granulated sugar as dh gets it everywhere so sugar cubes are I the cupboard with the tea bags. I have a tiny kitchen though so like to keep the surfaces clear if I can.

PorpentiaScamander · 25/05/2020 00:27

I have red Russell Hobbs ones. They match my microwave, slowcooker , toaster (although that's Tesco not RH)
Although I have 2 with teabags in and 1 with sugar. I find coffee gets damp in them.
I also have some Douwe Egberts jars with flour and different types of sugar in.

mumofone2818 · 25/05/2020 00:40

@porkandbeans PLEASSSE share where you got them they sound awesome!!!

MargotLovedTom1 · 25/05/2020 01:36

TheMostHappy I hope you didn't pay that price - I got the same set about three months ago from B&M for less than a tenner!

ClementineTangerine · 25/05/2020 01:40

I dont have them but I think depending on design they can look old fashioned, yes... or they can look modern.

My friend has some small glass ones that stack that I like as they save space

Destroyedpeople · 25/05/2020 01:43

I have some plain brown/cream hornsea pottery jars that you can write on with chalk if you are feeling whimsical. Charity shoppe of course.

AgeLikeWine · 25/05/2020 01:50

We keep tea bags in the box, loose leaf teas & coffee beans in their packets and sugar in an old Kilner jar. We don’t drink instant coffee.

Is that really so naff?

porkandbeans · 25/05/2020 06:21

Mumofone2818

Just had a Google and looks like they are our of stock.

Glass Kilner type jars, one for teabags, one for sugar (for guests as neither of us take sugar!) and one for sweetener. Coffee stays in it's own jar. Not bothered if they are naff, the thought hadn't even occurred to me!

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 25/05/2020 06:44

Dunoon funky farm ones from the 1990s, I also have mugs, flour, biscuits, pasta, salt, pepper and storage jars in the same kind.

EdwinaMay · 25/05/2020 06:44

I have glass kilner jars. I though functional was fashionable maybe i'm out of date.

Parkmama · 25/05/2020 06:54

We just had our kitchen done recently and now have slightly less worktop so decided to minimise all the things we had before like the bread bin and canisters for keeping tea/coffee etc. It dawned on me that it is curious having some things out like that but the majority of everything else in the cupboard. I do think it's a bit dated tbh! So I used these containers from Lakeland, bought through amazon and they're really good as they come in lots of different sizes and stack easily in the cupboards meaning everything is better organised and labelled and I don't have packets of sugar/nuts/spices falling on my head every time. All tea/coffee/sugar goes in one of these now.
