roller blind inside roman blind?

We moved into our house a couple years ago and I'm finally getting around to the windows. Right now the bedroom has inside mount blackout roman blinds which let in a lot of light at the sides in the mornings now that the days are getting longer. They also leave me feeling pretty exposed to the neighbours when drawn during the day.

Am wondering if the following would be weird: inside mount sheerish roller blinds for privacy but daylight during the day, plus outside mount roman blinds to block the light at night. Has anyone done this and it worked ok?

I see a lot about layering blinds and curtains which I like but curtains won't really work in our space.

Thanks!

love layering.
any chance of a photo?
do you want a voile effect during day to block out neigbours?
why don't curtains work?
sorry....more questions than answers.

one idea: you could have wooden ventetian during day, carefully angled will give privacy and outside mounted fabric for warmth at night.

Thanks for the responses! Here is a photo. I think voile effect would be good during day or the Venetian blinds could work too. I think curtains would look good but just won’t quite fit with bedside table etc, we don’t have a ton of extra room, and will block the radiator. What do you think?

I'd have wooden Venetian blinds (white or similar) inside the window and then roman blinds outside. Dunelm have a great choice of fabrics and their made to measure service is good too (once they reopen!)

I've posted a photo of my bathroom roman blind.

I have a similar set-up with spring - loaded roller blinds (blackout).

I've experimented by attaching a cheap voile behind which I can still open/close the blackout blind but gives me light without exposure during the day. Just stuck on with tape till I work out what I want. You could try that?

I can't have curtains really because then I wouldn't be able to open the windows fully, which would be problematic in the summer.

Wooden slatted blinds look nice but definitely don't black out the light properly.

I'm not a fan of vertical blinds, I think they look officey.

Yes, like poster below I'd do white wooden venetian inside and a nice, generous fabric outside.
Blinds2Go and Curtains2Go (same company) get great reviews on here. All made to measure. I know they are still sending out fabric samples.

I have done that in one of my windows for privacy and to still get daylight and it looks fine, another option could be window film instead of a roller blind?

Thanks all! I will explore the venetian blinds idea or go with roller inside roman. I like blinds2go and have some from there for another room but for outside mount on these windows with their frames I think it would look better with something sort of hiding the mounting mechanism (like the ones there now), you know? i can't find that option on blinds2go... Next has ones that look nice, anyone tried theirs? I will check out dunelm too

We have blinds2go sheer roller blinds next to the window and bespoke blackout-lined romans on top (covering the whole window reveal in some rooms and inside the reveal in others for reasons too complicated and dull to go into here). Layered effect is nice and it works re: competing privacy/shade requirements.

Likesicecream · 06/05/2020 11:27

Thank you glad to hear it works!!

@orangina do you have a photo, or a link to the same treatment on the blinds2go site? Im wondering whether to get rid of the 'perfect fit' frame and blind I have now.

Made to measure plantation shutters would solve all these problems for a big price.

Palavah · 11/05/2020 20:28

Plantation shutters won't give a blackout

I've got a blackout roller blind in the bedroom window recess and a pole hanging Roman blind in a linen type fabric over it. I just pull down the linen one for privacy.
