Fitting Roman blinds

I tried to fit a new Roman blind to the top of a recess. But, couldn't drill terribly far into the top of the recess. Maybe only to 1 inch depth. I was using an ordinary drill not a masonry drill. I hitting the lintel is that what is preventing me drilling deeper?

Alternatively am I drilling the holes for the screws too wide? The blind fell down ☹️

If it is the lintel how do you fit Roman blinds into a recess with top brackets?

If that’s plaster board your drilling into, I suggest using special plasterboard fixings to anchor your blind, normal wall plugs I find just fall out and the plasterboard is too brittle and thin to anchor them properly.
I’d suggest moving the placement forward (away from the window) and fitting there. If you keep hitting the lintel, there’s little you can do about it. You could however be hitting block work (if that is how your property is constructed) in which case, a better drill bit and drill will help. I’d still recommend plasterboard fixings in either case though.

I have a couple of alternatives as I've had to look for new ways of fitting blinds as I can't drill into my window panes. In Ikea you can buy Roman blinds that slide over a curtain pole, so that's one alternative or, buy a tension rod and place that in the window recess.
